At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
 enumerate the elements of disaster risk;
 measure the relative levels of disaster risk that different areas are exposed to;
 explain how the use of maps influences the adoption of measures to reduce the
levels of disaster risk; and
 demonstrate awareness regarding hazards through poster making.

2. Subject Matter
 Topic: Disaster Risk
 Reference: Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction Textbook (Second Edition)
 Materials: PowerPoint Presentation

3. Learning Strategies
A. Routinary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Maintenance of the Classroom Order

B. Learning Tasks

Motivation

Task 1: Text Twist

unscramble the letters to discover the word.
Analysis

Task 2: Hazard a Guess

The teacher will exhibit five (5) hazard-related photos; students will guess what is
being shown in the photo and tell if it is natural, man-made, or technological hazard.

Questions:

 How do hazards affect humans?

 What are the worst possible things that could go wrong?
 As a student, what are the prudent practices necessary to minimize the risk of
exposure to the hazards?
Abstraction

The teacher will discuss the elements of disaster risk, estimating disaster risk,
and the use of maps to minimize the levels of disaster risk.

Application

Students will make a poster that promotes awareness of the dangers of hazards to
humans, relating the three elements – hazard, vulnerability, and exposure.

Assignment

In a short bond of paper, take a snapshot of your community. Identify the

common problem/s that make your community susceptible to hazards.
