1. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
enumerate the elements of disaster risk;
measure the relative levels of disaster risk that different areas are exposed to;
explain how the use of maps influences the adoption of measures to reduce the
levels of disaster risk; and
demonstrate awareness regarding hazards through poster making.

Motivation
The teacher will present a set of words associated with the lesson; students will
unscramble the letters to discover the word.
Analysis
The teacher will exhibit five (5) hazard-related photos; students will guess what is
being shown in the photo and tell if it is natural, man-made, or technological hazard.
Questions:
The teacher will discuss the elements of disaster risk, estimating disaster risk,
and the use of maps to minimize the levels of disaster risk.
Application
Students will make a poster that promotes awareness of the dangers of hazards to
humans, relating the three elements – hazard, vulnerability, and exposure.
