Warm-up and Objective Discussion
1. PowerPoint Slides about shops pictures are described on the screen. By using the
pictures, Teacher leads Students to recall the vocabulary of people, shops and
goods. (5 Minutes)
2. Write down the shops on the blackboard and let students to brainstorm more
vocabulary (Mind Mapping Activity) (5 minutes)
The Main Objective: To elicit Students’ Prior knowledge and To get involved actively in
the coming activities.

Instruct and Model  R  W  L  S

Part 1: Teacher will create a situation about short conversation between shop assistant and
customer asking about prices using “How much is this/ How much are they?/ It is/ They
are--- dollars. (3 minutes)
Then, teacher shows some goods with prices and asks students the prices using the
sentence “How much is it/ are they?” Students use “It is/ They are … dollars to answer and
vice versa. (5 minutes)

Part 2: Teacher will play the audio about asking prices in a clothes shop between
salesperson and customer and answer the questions (How much does the shirt cost?/ How
much does Carlos spend?) (4 minutes)

Part 3: Teacher will play the listening audio about asking a shop assistant and making
request for a bargain conversation (Do you need any help? / Where is the changing
room?/ It’s made of leather/ Can I try them on?/ It would be so nice if you could give me a
discount?) (5 minutes)

Part 4: Students have to arrange the words in the correct order to ask a shop assistant for
help. (3 minutes)

(1) Teacher shows worksheets about a conversation between customer and


shopkeeper at a market.
Students write numbers each line of the conversation in order 1 to 10.
Then Listen and check. (4 minutes)

(2) Listen to a –f and write down the prices of these clothes. Then Check the answers
in pairs, making conversation and check with teacher. (3 minutes)

(3) Listen to the audio and fill in the blanks about making polite request for a
bargain. Then check the correct answer by practicing the conversation in pair
work. The students listen to their partners and discuss about the answers and
check with the teacher. (5 minutes)

Independent Practice  R  W  L  S

Teacher divides half of the class as shop assistants and the other half as customers.

Customers: Work individually. Make a shopping list of five items of clothing you want to
buy. Then, go shopping! Talk to different shop assistants and tell them what you want to
buy. Do they have the size you want? Ask about the price. Try to buy all the items on
your list.

Shop assistants: Work individually. Make a list of five items of clothing in your shop and
add the prices. Are any items in the sale? Then talk to different customers. Try to sell as
much as you can.

Teacher says students to imagine you are a customer in a clothes shop. Use the ideas below
and ask a shop assistant for help. Example. Teacher says: Excuse me. Can you help me,
please? How much are these shoes? (5 minutes)
Listen the conversation and Write the correct answers on the assessment worksheet.
