Sub-topic 1: The rise of Nazi Germany

Unit 1: End of WWI; Weimar Republic; Treaty of Versailles 1919 and brief summary of German
punishments

- WWI ended after 4 years; Germany was defeated


- The king of Germany was overthrown (Kaiser Wilhelm II)
- Germany became a republic and they agreed to stop fighting

The Treaty of Versailles and how Germany was punished

- The armistice was signed and the leaders of the winning countries wrote down a Peace
Treaty
- The Peace Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919
- The countries wanted revenge on Germany for the damages caused
- The Treaty of Versailles dictated:
o Germany had to pay for the cost of the war
o Germany lost a lot of land
o Germany signed a Guild Clause to admit their guilt
o Germany was not allowed to build up a new defence force

Homework:
