The key aspect of the K to 12 Program is the improvement of the basic education curriculum to

guarantee that learners gain the appropriate knowledge and skills they will need to become productive
members of society. With the participation of the Commission on Higher Education and the Technical
Education and Skills Development Authority, the program has the capability of offering professionally
designed classes and apprenticeships in sports, the arts, middle-level skills, entrepreneurship, and
applied math and sciences. It will take years, but we will have to start with basic basics. Enhancing
higher education is essential.

Prior to the introduction of the K–12 program into the Philippine Education System, primary and
secondary education in the country consisted of just 10 years of formal education, of which the first six
years were spent in elementary school and the final four in high school.
Although the K to 12 program in the Philippines aims to help improve the quality of education in the cou
ntry and produce better skilled students for maximum employability, K to 12 has also come under heavy
fire, primarily regarding the ability of Filipinos to financially support their children through three additio
nal years of school. Two more years of school would incur thousands more in costs under the current sy
stem. Yet things are likely to get more expensive under the K to 12 Program, which mandates that kids s
elect one of three SHS courses for their education. While the financial ability of children and their parent
s to sustain them through two more years of school is the main negative of the K-12 system in the Philip
pines, it also puts pressure on Filipino teachers, particularly in public schools.

Implementing this k-12 Basic Education Program enhances and develops students prepared
themselves emotionally and cognitive aspects. However, our government must also consider some
problems and consequence that will encounter both the implementing factor and the recipient. The
public has not been made so very aware of the costs and the benefits in implementing this program. The
context of this program is not very well known to the public. And the teacher should be made aware of
what kind of curriculum will be given to the learner and will take too much time to plan some strategic
approach to rule out some implications as to the very principle and aligned to exist the international
standards of this program
