Describe the principle and important of INMARSAT and SAILOR equipment onboard
the ship
INMARSAT and SAILOR are both types of satellite communication equipment that are
commonly used on ships. INMARSAT is an international satellite network that provides voice
and data communication services to ships, airplanes, and other mobile platforms. SAILOR is a
brand of satellite communication equipment that is manufactured by the Danish company
Cobham SATCOM.
The principle behind satellite communication equipment like INMARSAT and SAILOR is
simple: it allows ships to communicate with each other and with other parties on land using
satellite signals. This is important for a number of reasons. For example, it allows ships to
maintain contact with their home port, to communicate with other ships in the same area, and to
access important navigational and safety information. It also enables ships to communicate with
rescue and emergency services in case of an emergency.
The use of satellite communication equipment is particularly important for ships that operate in
remote areas or in areas where there is no reliable terrestrial communication infrastructure. It is
also essential for maintaining safe and efficient operations on board the ship, as it allows the
crew to communicate with each other and with shore-based personnel.
In short, satellite communication equipment like INMARSAT and SAILOR is an essential part
of a ship's communication and safety systems, and is critical for maintaining safe and efficient
operations at sea.
INMARSAT and SAILOR are satellite communication systems that are commonly used on ships
to provide voice and data connectivity while at sea. The INMARSAT system uses a network of
satellites in geostationary orbit to provide global coverage, while the SAILOR system uses a
combination of geostationary and low Earth orbit satellites.
One of the main advantages of these systems is that they allow ships to maintain communication
with shore-based facilities, such as port authorities and emergency services, even when they are
outside of the range of terrestrial communication systems. This is important for the safe and
efficient operation of ships, as it allows them to receive important information and guidance, and
to report their position and status.
Another important benefit of INMARSAT and SAILOR systems is that they can provide internet
connectivity to ships, allowing crew members to stay connected and access information and
services online. This can be especially useful for long voyages, where ships may be out of range
of other forms of communication for extended periods of time.
In summary, INMARSAT and SAILOR systems are important for the safe and efficient
operation of ships, as they provide a reliable means of communication with shore-based
facilities, even when ships are outside of the range of terrestrial systems.
