    Open Mind

    Character:____________________________Chapter___________

    Focus on a major character in the chapter- a key player. Skim back over the text and review anything that was
    written about the character. (Think: characterization!) Now, imagine you are the character. Below is an “open
    mind” diagram, a way of making a visual representation of your understanding of the character. Inside the
    outline, DRAW symbols and images and WRITE words or phrases in any combination which represent (1) the
    character’s appearance, (2) the character’s thoughts and feelings, (2) the character’s actions and/or behavior
    AND (3) other character’s reactions to the character. Use this handout or your own paper.
