1. What are the eight major categories of indigenous people in the Philippines?
The eight major categoties of indigenous people in the Philippines are, the
Negrito of Luzon, the Igorot, the Mangyan, the Ati, the Lumad, the Bajau,
the Palawan tribes, and the Panay tribes.
2. What are the IP communities that we can locate in the northern part of the country?
What are those that we can locate at the southern part of the country?
The IP communities that we can locate in the northern part of the country are
called the Igorots, with groups such as the Ibaloy, Kankanaey, Bontoc,
Ifugao, Kalinga, Isneg, Tinggian, and Kalanguya. Other indigenous groups
living in Northern Luzon are Ganddang, Bugkalot, Ilongot, Isinay, Aeta and
Ivatan. While, the IP communities that we can locate at the southern part of
the country are also known as the Lumad. Lumads composing of the
“Bagobo, Mansaka, Mandaya, Subanen, T'boli, B'laan and Tiruray. Also, the
Blaan, Bukidnon, Higaonon, Mamanwa, Mandaya, Manobo, Mansaka,
Sangir, Subanen, Tagabawa, Tagakaulo, Tasaday, and T'boli are among the
Lumad ethnic groups. Among those mentioned above, the Manobo tribe
includes further big ethnic groups such as the Ata-Manobo, Agusan-
Manobo, and Dulangan-Manobo.
