FEATURES
OF THIS PUBLICATION
The following paragraphs explain various important details with which the user should be familiar for proper understanding of the catalog and practices peculiar to this book:
STANDARDIZED
GOVERNMENT
GROUPING:
The parts listed in this catalog are divided into major and minor groups in accordance with the Standardized Government Grouping. This division into groups facilitates the location and identification of each part. The Standard Government Grouping as adapted to this catalog is outlined on page 4.
ILLUSTRA TIONS:
Assembly views and exploded views are used throughout the Service Parts Catalog (ORD 9) of this catalog to aid the user in locating and identifying parts. All illustrations are placed in close relationship to he groups to which they apply. On each illustration or separate reference legend the noun name, part number and appropriate group number of each part illustrated are given. This prompts the quick identification of each part and accurate reference to the text for complete listing. Each illustration is identified by a figure number and title, and in the index section at the back of the catalog will be found an index of all figures and the page on which they appear.
ATTACHING
PARTS:
Attaching parts, such as bolts, nuts and rivets, etc., are indented immediately below the part which they attach as listed in the Service Parts Catalog (ORD 9). This promotes quick selection of the parts to be requisitioned for use in the installation of other parts.
STANDARD
HARDWARE
A complete resume of all standard hardware and bulk material will be found listed in group 2304 of ORD 9. These same parts are also listed at each point of use throughout Addendum (ORD 8).
INDEXES:
Particular attention is called to the fact that a complete set of indexes, numerical, alphabetical, etc., is carried at the back of the book. However, attaching parts and standard hardware are not listed in all indexes. Attaching parts may be identified by locating part they attach in ORD 9 in which they will be indented under the part.
ORDERING
PARTS, OFFICIAL
STOCK NUMBERS:
Official Stock Numbers, Part Numbers, Piece Marks and complete nomenclature must be carefully included on the requisition when parts are ordered. When there is any disagreement between the official stock numbers shown for the same item as listed in the several sections, that shown in the Higher Echelon Spare Parts and Equipment List (Addendum) (ORD 8) will govern. ORD 7-8-9, SNL G-220 2
SERIAL NUMBERS:
The vehicle is identified by serial and model number. The serial and model number and the location are as follows:
Name of Unit Location
Trailer body
The major item covered by this catalog is designated as a combat vehicle as defined in paragraph AR8S0-1S, dated 28 August 1943.
3,
(1) Turn to the alphabetical index and locate part noun and identifying description, "Group No." shown opposite the description.
noting the
(2) Using the Group number shown in the index, refer to that group in ORD 8 or ORD 9. (Group numbers appear in the upper outside corners of the pages.) b. If the part is known only through location or function in the vehicle: (1) Refer to the Standardized Government Grouping list, page 4, and determine which the part is most likely to be listed. the group in
(2) Another method to locate by function is to refer to the Illustration Index and review Figure Titles to determine possible function or location. When the proper illustration is found, refer to the illustration legend to determine the group number, part number and part name. c.
If only the Official Stock Number is known:
(1) Refer to the Numerical Index or Official Stock Number listing. Group number will be shown opposite the known number. d. If either the Ordnance number or the Vendor's (Manufacturer's) number is known:
(1) Refer to the Numerical Index, Piece Mark listings and locate the group number opposite the piece mark number. EXAMPLE: Assume that a Wheel Bearing is required. Referring to the Standardized Government Grouping list, it will be noted that Group 1301A indicates "WHEEL BEARINGS." Referring to this group in ORD 8 or ORD 9, the part is listed alphabetically. Inasmuch as there are two wheel bearings, some doubt may exist as to the part needed. In this case, further identification may be made by referring to the illustration through the figure number reference indicated in column one of the body parts listing. The part could also be found by referring to the alphabetical wheel." The same sub-group reference is made. index under "BEARING,
The same part could be found by reference to the Illustration Index to locate the figure which applies to the location or function of the part. After locating the part in figure, refer to the figure legend to establish part number and sub-group.

ORD 7,
SNL G-220
KITS,
In this section are listed the parts and equipment available for issue to Ordnance Units for the maintenance of the vehicle, The quantities shown (cols, 5, 6, 7) are those required for the maintenance of 100 vehicles for 12 months in a Thear.cr of Operations, Column 5 lists the quantities applicable to Ordnance Field Units, Column 6 lists the quantities applicable to Ordnance Base Units. Column 7 lists the total first year procurement quantities for 100 major items. Using troops performing first and second echelon maintenance are authorized to requisition any parts marked by a percent (~() sign in column 5, as well as any standard hardware, for immediate replacement purposes. They are not authorized to requisition any other parts. However, al1 parts marked with a percent (~;) sign are not necessarily included in the Organizational Spare Parts and Equipment List (ORD 7). Normally only those parts shown in the Organizational Spare Parts and Equipment List (ORD 7) are carried. However, any parts marked with a percent sign in column 5 may be requisitioned for immediate replacement purposes, provided time and the tactical situation permit, and trained personnel and suitable tools are available. Column 5 will be used as a guide for cornpu ti ng normal field requirements and also in computing Ordnance Depot Company Stocks where major over hahl operations are not involved. (Normally no major overhaul operations are conducted within a Field Army.) Column 6 will be used as a guide in computing stock for depot units of ordnance organizations performing major overhaul. (For example: Depot Companies in fixed Ordnance Base Inst alla t ions.) Recommendations for additions to or reductions of quantities of spare should be forwarded to the Chief of Ordnance with reasons therefor. parts to be listed in this SNL
In order that the Ordnance Department at large may be able to make equitable distribution of the total stock of anyone item, ordnance organization commanders should limit their requisitions and stocks to the absolute minimum requirements that are estimated to be necessary for each contemplated tactical operation. The Chief Ordnance Officer of a task force is responsible that various ordnance units in the task force do not use the same major items in computing their stocks; e.g., if there is a grand total of 168 Semitrailers in the entire force, each ordnance unit in the task force should not claim the entire 168 Semitrailers as a basis for computing its stocks. The Chief Ordnance Officer must allocate, for spare parts stockage purposes, the major items of the task force among the various ordnance units of the task force, See "Supply Functions of Cornpany," FM 9~lO, Ordnance Field Maintenance,

ATTACHING
PARTS
Attaching parts, such as rivets, bolts, nuts, screws, etc., are indented immediately under parts which they attach. This promotes quick selection of the attaching parts needed for use in the installation of other parts.
QUANTITY
The Quantity per Unit Assembly Column lists the quantity of the part required for the particular use in question. If, for example, there are two engines in the vehicle, the quantities of the components listed will be double the number required in one engine. If there are two similar brackets, each requiring four bolts, the total quantity of eight bolts will be indicated. It is therefore necessary to check the quantity of assemblies before using the indicated quantity of components to determine the quantity required per engine. In the case of attaching parts, the quantity of the items attached should be checked.
