SECOND SEMESTER 2022-23

COURSE HANDOUT
Date: 12.01.2023

In addition to part I (General Handout for all courses appended to the Time table) this portion gives further
specific details regarding the course.
Course No : ME F318
Course Title : Computer Aided Design
Instructor-in-Charge : Amit R. Singh
Tutorial/Practical Instructors: Atharv Deshmankar, Ayush Ohwal, Pradnya Chabbi, Vasudev Sengar
1. Course Description:
Mathematical modeling of parametric curves, surfaces and solids. Geometric transformations, isometric
transformations including translation, scaling, reflection, and rotation using specialized solid modeling
packages. CAD/CAM data exchange. Introduction to FEM & FEA practice on a specialized CAE package.
Modeling and simulation based practical exercises related to geometric modeling, finite element analysis, and
machine drawing such as orthographic drawing, sectional view, assembly drawing & exploded view.
2. Scope and Objective of the Course:
The course will cover an introduction to the mathematical formulation of geometric entities like curves,
surfaces, and solids, their geometric transformations. It will also introduce the Finite Element Method. The
laboratory hours will be utilized to impart training in software for geometric models and Finite Element
Analysis.

3. Text Books:
1. Computer Aided Design, Ibrahim Zaed, Tata Mc-Grawhill.
2. Machine Drawing by Ajeet Singh, Tata Mc-Grawhill
3. Introduction to Finite Element Method, JN Reddy
4. Reference Books:
