Learning Objectives
This course aims to build a solid background for RF circuits and systems design and implementation to be
put in use in practical postgraduate projects. By finishing this course, the students should be able to:
• analyze RF and microwave distribution circuits using transmission line theory.

• perform impedance matching using different stub arrangements for various types of planar transmission
lines.

• analyze RF and microwave circuits using network theory and utilizing the impedance, transmission,
and scattering parameters.

• design basic filters using planar transmission lines.

1
RF Circuits M.Sc. Course Book

• design RF amplifiers using different types of transistors (BJT, FET, and HEMT).

• design RF oscillators and mixers, and be familiar with their figures of merit.

• Implement all the designed circuits using the simulation software (ADS).

Prerequisites
The scientific background of the students taking this course should include the following:

• above intermediate level in English (reading and writing).

• undergraduate mathematical skills (calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations).

• basic understanding (undergraduate level) of electromagnetic waves propagation.

• basic understanding (undergraduate level) of electronic devices and circuits large and small signal
analysis.
