Leadership Legacies Class Syllabus

Ms. L. Burton Campbell Academy Research Skills Module Room 213 Unit Title Leadership Legacies: Exploring Leaders through the Big Six Research Process Goal: The goal of this unit is for students to gain the success tools needed to plant seeds to grow their own leadership gardens. Students will be able to implement the Big Six Research Process,a nationally recognized process to teach information skills, as they analyze leaders past and present. Course Objectives: As students explore the research process they will y Recognize the need for leadership in any society y Differentiate between the different types of leadership that exist in the world y Compare different characteristics of leaders world wide y See connections between the past the present and the future of leadership As students begin to plant their leadership gardens they will y Make real-world connections related to leadership through literature study y Utilize both inventive and expressive creativity as they realize that like a physical garden, they can produce amazing results . . . but it is up to them to plant the seeds of leadership they desire y Answer essential questions related to leadership skills y Understand there are two conditions that affect the growth of all Leadership Gardens: 1. A survival condition allows the growth of weeds; tenacious thoughts and emotions with deep taproots from early life experiences that lead to harsh judgments, gossip, blame, and victimization. 2. A thriving condition promotes vigorous, flourishing, and expansive growth; rooted in the U.N.I.Q.U.E.: Understanding, Nurturing, Inventive, Quality, Unstoppable, Expression success tools.

Kids: Growing My Leadership Garden by Debra Slover y Participatation in differentiated lessons that focus on improving leadership skills y Participation in guest speaker discussions y Participation in differntiated learning centers (Leadership Library, Research, Tecnology, Writing, and Thinking Games) Products: y Technology and research based tiered projects following the Big Six Research Process y Leadership Journals y Interactive class bulletin boards y Class Blog Every person is a unique seed in the worlds garden.
