Three Phase Full Wave Controlled Rectifier

Aim: To design and implement a Three Phase Full Wave Controlled
Rectifier with R load.

Software Used: MATLAB

Theory: The full-wave three-phase controlled bridge rectifier circuit uses six
thyristors, two per phase in a similar fashion to the single-phase bridge rectifier.
A 3-phase full-wave rectifier is obtained by using two half-wave rectifier
circuits. The circuit produces a lower ripple output than the half-wave 3-phase
rectifier as it has a frequency of six times the input AC waveform. All the six
thyristors are controlled switches which are turned on at appropriate times by
applying suitable gate trigger signals. The thyristors are triggered at an interval
of π/3 radians.

Theoretical Calculations:
For an R load, average output voltage Three Phase Full Wave Controlled
Rectifier is given by:

For a three phase AC source of line voltage 400V, and with firing
angle α = 30◦; Vo,avg = 467.81V

Parameters Theoretical Simulation

Values Values
AC Input Voltage (Vin,rms) 210V 200V
Output Average Voltage (Vo,avg 467.81V 464.1V
Output Average Current (Io,avg) 46.781A 46.41A

Result: The load considered is resistive in nature, the output current is in phase with
output voltage.

Conclusion: The design of Three Phase Full Wave Controlled Rectifier

with R load implemented successfully in MATLAB using Simulink. The
output waveforms for voltage and current were obtained, and a
comparison between theoretically calculated and simulated output
parameter values was also performed.
