Content Standard: Art elements and processes by synthesizing and applying prior knowledge and
skills. The arts as integral to the development of organizations, spiritual belief, historical events,
scientific discoveries, natural disasters/ occurrences, and other external phenomena.
Performance Standard: Perform/participate competently in a presentation of a creative impression
(verbal/nonverbal) from the Neoclassic and Romantic periods. Recognize the difference and uniqueness
of the art styles of the different periods (techniques, process, elements, and principles of art)

Learning competencies:
 Analyzes art elements and principles in the production of work following a specific art style
from the Neoclassic and Romantic periods (A9ELIIIb-1)
 Identifies distinct characteristics of arts during the Neoclassic and Romantic periods.

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
A. determine the distinct characteristics of arts and the artists during the neoclassic and romantic
painting;
B. reflects on and derive the mood, idea, or message from selected artworks or message emanating
from the selected neoclassic and romantic painting; and
C. collaborate and participate actively in the activities about neoclassic and romantic painting.

A. Motivation
We will have an activity entitled “BLIND
ARTIST” The teacher will ask at least 4 students
to volunteer. The teacher will give a word for the
students to draw in the board while blindfolded
while the rest of the class will guess the picture.

Our lesson for today is all about the neoclassical


painting especially the life and famous works of
the artist.

C. Lesson Proper
I will group you into 4 groups. Each group will
be given a topic and present it through
broadcasting.
Each group must have at least 2 to 5
representatives to present their work.

Group 1 - Life of Jacques-Louis David as an


artist.
Group 2 – Famous artwork Jacques-Louis David
Group 3 – Life of Jean-Auguste-Dominique (The students present their activity).
Ingres as an artist.

FRANCE
- was an influential French painter in the
Neoclassical style and considered to be the
pre-eminent painter of the era.
- His subject of painting where more on
history.

1. THE DEATH OF MARAT


- David’s masterpiece shows the portrayal
of a revolutionary martyr. This is a painting
of the murdered French revolutionary leader
Jean-Paul Marat.

2. NAPOLEON CROSSING THE ALPS


- it showed a strongly idealized view of the
real crossing that Napoleon and his army
made across the Alps through the Great St.
Bernard pass in May 1800.

3. OATH OF THE HORATII


- it is a large painting that depicts a scene
from a Roman legend about the dispute
between Rome and Alba Longa. The three
brothers, all of whom appear willing to
sacrifice their lives for the good of Rome, ae
shown saluting their father who holds their
swords out for them.

 Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780 –


1867)
- He was a pupil of Jacques-Louis David,
and regarded as one of the great exemplars
of academic art and one of the finest Old
Masters of his era.
- His paintings were usually nudes, portraits,
and mythological theme.

1. PORTRAIT OF NAPOLEON ON THE


IMPERIAL THRONE – the painting depicts
Napoleon in his decadent coronation
costume, seated upon his golden encrusted
throne, hand resting upon smooth Ivory
balls. During his reign, the painting was
owned by the Corpse Legislative which was
a part of the French Legislature. The
painting was believed to be commissioned
by Napoleon as King of Italy.
