VIII. Beneficiaries
Primary Beneficiaries: People in the Community
As the number of population increases in the community, the garbage and dirt
made by the people also increases. This action plan or project will merely focus on the
proper disposal of the trash in the community. It also focuses on spreading awareness and
knowledge on the effect of not properly disposing of the garbage and the mixing of the
non-biodegradable and biodegradable wastes. All people in the community will benefit
from it as they are the ones who are living in that specific neighbourhood and they will be
able to have a greener and cleaner space for a better and safer community.

Secondary Beneficiaries: SK And Barangay Officials of Lutucan Malabag, Sariaya,

Quezon.
The SK and Barangay Officials will be the secondary beneficiaries of this project
for the reason that they can also apply and share this project to other barangay officials
in other barangays in town. They will be able to help other people as well and spread
awareness as they gain knowledge and become more aware on the happenings around the
community. They can encourage other people especially the officials to have this kind of
project that can really help to minimize the dirt and pollution in the community and can
lead to a greener and cleaner community.

IX. Rationale of the project

(The photo was taken last February 20, 2022)

Being a community that was very far from the city and main town of Sariaya,
Sitio Lagnas, Brgy. Lutucan Malabag is one of the communities that are suffering from
practicing proper disposal of wastes. Given that this place is very far, so there are no
trucks which can collect plastic bottles and other non-biodegradable trash. As part
of the community, I have seen and observed how people dispose of their garbage. They
mixed all the non biodegradable and biodegradable trashes and burn them together.
Being a student who was quite active in environmental programs in school before, I
am aware that this practice or this way of disposing wastes are not right and can affect
and destroy the ozone layer and later on can be one of the reasons of global
warming.

This factor made me think and decide to conduct this project in this
community. All people who belong or part in the community will benefit from this
project because they are the ones who are living there and as time passes by and they
will used of doing this kind of project, they can sustain the cleanliness of the
surrounding and later on encourage other people to practice or do it as well.

X. Objectives

This project aims the following General and Specific Objectives:

• Check and observe the surroundings around the Community.
o The proponent with the help of the people and barangay officials will
observe the surrounding in the community and discuss on how this project can
help the problem in terms of not proper segregation and disposal of the wastes
in the neighbourhood.
• Conduct discussions that will tackle the current situation of the environment,
including the global warming and segregation of wastes
o The proponent with the help of possible speakers will discuss the correct
process of segregation and disposal of wastes and how these wastes can turn
into a product that can be helped and used by them. The proponent and
speakers will let the participants know the happenings in today’s environment.
Also, explaining how this small practice such as burning wastes and not
properly disposing of waste can affect and can in addition worsen the changes
of the calamity and turn into global warming.

• Application of the knowledge gained throughout the project and live with it in order
to sustain a cleaner and greener community
o The proponent together with all the people who live in the community are
expected to continue practicing the project without the help of any barangay
officials. All the people are expected to be more knowledgeable in terms of
handling the wastes at home and be knowledgeable on how it can affect not
just the neighbourhood but other places as well. Keeping these practices will
effectively improve the appearance of the surrounding, it will be cleaner and
being able to live with this kind of attitude towards the cleanliness and safeness
of all the people will eventually lead to a much better place.
XI. Description of the project

This project will be led by a Civil Engineering student from Batangas State
University, who will have this CWTS project entitled Kaalaman Patungo sa
Kalinisan: Kolektahin ang Di-Nabubulok, Gawing Abono ang Nabubulok held in
Sitio Lagnas, Lutucan Malabag, Sariaya, Quezon. This project will provide activities
such as seminars to share knowledge on how important to properly dispose of the non
biodegradable wastes from biodegradables and the creation of fertilizer from
biodegradable wastes. This project will continue to run even after the implementation
period in the community, it will just be a starting action for cleaner and greener space
in the community. Also, making fertilizer from biodegradable wastes is very helpful
for the people who are into plants and they can also share it to other people. This
project simply wants to inform and spread awareness to the people on how important
proper disposal of waste was.
The project will need
• Letter of request for location and implementation from the Barangay Office .

XII. Strategies and methods of implementation

The project will be conducted from May 8, 2022 - June 26, 2022 (every
Wednesday and Saturday: Collection of Non-biodegradable wastes; every Sunday:
Composting of Biodegradable wastes) the Barangay Officials for the approval of the
project. The first week will be the approval of the Barangay officials to push through
the project. After the approval, there will be a seminar for sharing of information on
the importance of proper disposal of waste and how it can affect not only the people
in the community but also the other Barangays in town. The seminar will also tackle
the proper segregation of wastes and will focus on how these wastes can still be
useful for the people even though we think it was just trash. Another thing to be
explained in the seminar is the conversion of biodegradable wastes such as food
waste, papers and the likes into fertilizer that can be useful to the people who are fond
of planting plants and other agricultural practices.

For the next few weeks, the action proper will or project itself will get started.
Every Wednesday and Saturday is the time when the truck will collect the non-
biodegradable wastes and every Sunday is the composting of biodegradable wastes
done by some people in the community together with the Barangay officials. It will
be done weekly so that the people will get used to it and even though the project itself
will end in its specific time, this practice will still continue and as time passes by, it
will be done by other generations which are the children in the community. On June
26, 2022, there will be the last get together for all the people in the community and it
will consist of a certificate of appreciation to the people in the community and to the
Barangay and SK Officials who are actively participating throughout the project. The
SK and Barangay Officials will help and support the proponent to conduct the said
project. They will be assigned to the organization, other documentation, food
preparation and set-up preparation. They will be the best bridge to connect the
proponent/speaker to the people in the community.

XV. Monitoring and evaluation Mechanics of the Project

➢ Approval of the Barangay Officials for the proposed project

This will be held on the first Sunday of the proposed project (May 8,
2022) to properly ask permission and approval of the project in the community.

➢ Seminar (Proper Segregation and Disposal of Wastes)

This will be conducted in the second week of the project. The proponent
and speaker/s will present and discuss a series of topics regarding disposal and
segregation of wastes. The proponent with the help of SK and Barangay Officials
will monitor how the members of the community apply the changes and learn that
they will be gaining in this project.

➢ Converting biodegradable wastes into fertilizer

The conversion of biodegradable wastes such as food waste, papers, leaves
and the likes into fertilizer will be taught by the speaker. The speaker will discuss
how these components can be made as fertilizer that can be used by anyone in the
community. These wastes will not be “just waste”, it will be a thing that can really
help in some agricultural purposes.
➢ Action Proper (Collection of Non-Biodegradable Waste every Wednesday and
Saturday; Composting of Biodegradable Waste)
This part will be done by the third week when all things are settled and
can properly start doing the project. There will be a truck which will collect non-
biodegradable wastes and it will eventually go to the main town of Sariaya where
all the non-biodegradable wastes of all the barangays are gathered there and later
on will undergo the process of recycling. On the other hand, the composting of
biodegradable wastes are done by some of the people in the community who are
willing to learn and practice composting wastes and later on can be a fertilizer.
This process will be done with the guidance of the speaker who is knowledgeable
about it. Later on, these practices will be sustained by the people even after the
project is done.
XVI. Plans to Ensure the Sustainability of the Project

• Allowing people to learn and put what they've learned into practice in their daily
lives
• Assuring that built-knowledge is extensively used and shared throughout their
lifetimes
• Improve their outlook on life, particularly in relation to the environment and
nature.
• Ensure the safety of all participants and those who will be involved
• Enough budget to finance and support the said project
• • The community's officials' direction and observation are consistent
• Continue practicing what the people have done throughout the project
