nent emergency housing in Kitiganik. The fund-

The following drawings were extracted from a
document done a few years ago by Peter Fianu
and his former firm, Atelier BRAQ, proposing a
new housing model for northern communities.
The idea is to have all the main spaces of the
house on one level, making access easy for
everybody, including elders.
MORE OPTIONS
Chief and council are actively exploring other
quick solutions to create new spaces for com-
munity members. A yurt is composed of several
mesh walls. The number of walls determines the
diameter of the yurt.
This wooden structure, formed by all the walls,
center posts, and the circular ceiling of slats and
is covered with a felt layer.
Felt, due to its insulating properties, can protect
the occupants from both the heat in summer and
cold in winter.
Even in February, with outside temperatures in
the -30s, the yurt with its felt liner and a wood
stove can maintain an indoor temperature of
about 25 ° C.
The felt is then covered with a white cotton cloth,
possibly decorated to improve its water resis-
tance.
ABL is also looking at the possibility of buying
prospector tents with wood stoves.
In December 2021 ABL entered into an Imple-
mentation Agreement of the 2006 Joint Rec-
ommendations of Special Representatives in

and the 1998 Bilateral Agreement with the Gov-
ernment du Québec respecting the participation
of the ABL in the management of the renewable
resources found in ABL territory and the adoption
of measures to promote its social and economic

estate; to administer such gifts, bequests, and
contributions.
