Abstract

More than 3% of global carbon dioxide emissions can be attributed to ocean-going ships.
Over 90% of world trade is carried across the world’s ocean by sone 90,000 marine vessels.
Like all modes of transportation that use fossil fuels ship produce carbon dioxide emissions
that significantly contribute to global climate change and acidification. Besides carbon
dioxide ships also release a handful of other pollutants that contribute to the problem.
Increasing concerns about pollution levels in the oceans and coastal regions have led to
multiple approaches for measuring and mitigating marine pollution, in order to achieve
sustainable marine water quality. These approaches include- satellite remote sensing,
artificial intelligence. These methods give the insights on the polluted water which is being
monitored and thus helps increase our knowledge on the concerns and hence come up with
various solutions. In this paper we will you the details on how pollution is monitored at sea
using various sensors and AI and further we will discuss the methods ued on board a ship
to help and reduce pollution.
