UNIT 13: reflexive

pronouns
Dialogue:
Andrew se cortó a el mismo cortando carne. Kevin le pregunta si
necesita ayuda y Cathy le responde que no, que Andrew dijo que podía
hacerlo el mismo.
Kathy se cortó tratando de prender el fuego.
Kevin se lastimó a el mismo con los artículos de carpa.

reading: a smart boy

William Harrison was de ninth president of the EEUU. He was born in a small
town. When he was a young boy, he was very quiet and bashful, the people
thought he was stupid. His mother said “I know that you are a smart boy, by the
people don´t think it. I wonder ¿why?”.

The people of the town plaid a joke on this boy because they thought that he
was stupid. They said “William, here is a nickel and here is a dime. Which do
you want?” and William always chose the nickel and the people laugh at him.
Finally, his mother asked to him “¿why do you always choose the nickel instead
of the dime? The dime is worth more than a nickel” and the boy said “because if
I choose the dime, people won´t play the trick me anymore and I won´t get any
more nickels”.

Respuestas:
1. William Harrison was a ninth president of the EEUU. He was born in a
small town.
2. He was a quiet and bashful (timido).
3. I was a smart and extrovert girl.
4. She said “I know that William is smart, but the people don´t think it. I
wonder why?” // Why the people do think that William is stupid?
5. The people gave to him a nickel and a dime and they said “which do you
want?”
6. The people laugh, because the nickel worth (vale) less than dime.
7. He chose the nickel so that the people continue play jokes to him. That
way, he had more nickels // Because if he chose the dime, the people
wouldn’t play tricks anymore and he won´t get more nickels.
8. A nickel is a coin that its worth is five cents and a dime is worth ten. I
know a penny.
9. Because they want draw attention / they want to get benefits.
10. No, I don’t like play tricks.

Tres usos:
1. Para referise al sujeto de la oración.
Ej: Me corté.
I cut myself.

2. Para dar énfasis (suele aparecer antes del verbo)


Ej: ¡Lo hicieron ellos mismos!
They themselves do it.
3. Como sinónimo de solo o sola = alone (Se usa con “by” adelante).
Ej: Fui al cine solo.
I went to movies by myself.
