c) Breakdown of glucose d) Presence or absence of oxygen
5) Assertion (A): Water and minerals are absorbed from roots and are transported 1
upwards to various parts of the plant.
Reason (R): The process by which a substance absorbed from the roots of the
plant is moved to the upper part of the plant is known as active transport.
a) Both Assertion and Reason are true, and Reason is the correct explanation
of Assertion.
b) Both Assertion and Reason are true, but Reason is not the correct
explanation of Assertion.
c) Assertion is true but Reason is false.
d) Assertion is false but Reason is true.
6) Assertion: Fuse wire must have high resistance and low melting point. 1
Reason: Fuse is used for small current flow only.
a) Both Assertion and Reason are true, and Reason is the correct explanation
of Assertion.
b) Both Assertion and Reason are true, but Reason is not the correct
explanation of Assertion.
c) Assertion is true but Reason is false.
d) Assertion is false but Reason is true.
7) An iron rod is heated till it becomes red-hot. Is heating of the iron rod a 1
chemical change? Select the correct response with explanation.

a) No, because the rod does not change its state.

b) No, because no new substance is formed.
c) Yes, because heat is absorbed by the iron rod.
d) Yes, because the iron rod turns red when heated

2
8) The timetable of a train is shown below. 1

What is the total travel time of the train?

a) 3 hours 30 minutes
b) 3 hours 45 minutes
c) 4 hours 15 minutes
d) 4 hours 45 minutes

9) You are provided with a concave mirror, a convex mirror, a concave lens and a 1
convex lens. To obtain an enlarged image of an object you can use either
(a) Concave mirror or convex mirror.
(b) Concave mirror or convex lens.
(c) Concave mirror or concave lens.
(d) Concave lens or convex lens.
10) Paheli’s mother made a concentrated sugar syrup by dissolving sugar in hot 1
water. On cooling, crystals of sugar got separated. This indicates a
(a) physical change that can be reversed
(b) chemical change that can be reversed
(c) physical change that cannot be reversed
(d) chemical change that cannot be reversed.
11)
Read Read the given statements (i to vii) describing the events that lead to the 1
maturation of a plant.

Now,
S

3
select the correct option from the codes given above to put the events in a
correct order.

12) Read the following environmental conditions of tropical rainforests. 1

(i) Hot and humid climate
(ii) Unequal lengths of day and night
(iii) Abundant rainfall
(iv) Abundant light and moisture
Identify the conditions from the above list that are responsible for the presence
of large number of plants and animals in tropical rain forests.
(a) (i)and(ii)
(b) (i) and (iii)

16) Arrange the following statements in the correct order in which they occur during 2
the formation and removal of urine in human beings.
(a) Ureters carry urine to the urinary bladder.
(b) Wastes dissolved in water are filtered out as urine in the kidneys.
(c) Urine stored in the urinary bladder is passed out through the urinary opening
at the end of the urethra.
(d) Blood containing useful and harmful substances reaches the kidneys for
filtration.

Section C

21) What is an MCB? Explain its role in an electric circuit. 4

22) Normally we take in air through our nostrils. When we inhale air, it passes 4
through our nostrils into the nasal cavity. From the nasal cavity, the air reaches
our lungs through the windpipe. Lungs are present in the chest cavity. This
cavity is surrounded by ribs on the sides. A large, muscular sheet called
diaphragm forms the floor of the chest cavity. Breathing involves the movement
of the diaphragm and the rib cage. During inhalation, ribs move up and outwards
and diaphragm moves down. This movement increases space in our chest
cavity and air rushes into the lungs.

5
The lungs get filled with air. During exhalation, ribs move down and inwards,
while diaphragm moves up to its former position. This reduces the size of the
chest cavity and air is pushed out of the lungs.
Read the above passage and answer the following questions.
1. Where are the lungs present?
2. How do the ribs move during inhalation?
3. How do we take in air?
4. Draw a flow chart to show the passage of air to lungs.
23) Stamens are the male reproductive part and pistil is the female reproductive 5
part. Flowers which contain either only pistil or only stamens are called
unisexual flowers. Flowers which contain both stamens and pistil are called
bisexual flowers. Corn, papaya and cucumber produce uni sexual flowers,
whereas mustard, rose and petunia have bisexual flowers. Both male and
female unisexual flowers maybe present in the same plant or indifferent plants.
Anther contains pollen grains which produce male gametes. A pistil consists of
stigma, style and ovary. Ovary contains one or more ovules. The Female
gamete or the egg is formed in an ovule. In sexual reproduction a male and a
female gamete fuse to form a zygote.

Read the following passage and answer the following.

a) Which type of flower does papaya have?
b) Where is female gamete formed?
c) How a zygote is formed in sexual reproduction?
d) What are the parts of pistil?
e) What are the parts of stamen?
24) Explain the method of grafting in plants with a well labelled diagram. 5
