II. MECHANICS

SPOKEN POETRY

1. Spoken Word Poetry is a performance art that is word based. It is meant to be spoken or recited with emotion to an audience. It is an oral art that
focuses on the art of word play, rhythm, improvisation, intonation, and voice inflection.
2. The contest is open to Grade 10 Students of Miputak National High School. Each section shall be allowed 1 entry only.
3. The spoken word poetry piece will be provided by your English 10 teachers.
4. The spoken poetry may be delivered from memory or with a copy at hand.
5. Sounds, instruments, or musical background is allowed to complement the delivery. No deduction shall be made if the contestant opts not to
have a musical background.
6. Officers of the English Language Society are not allowed to join the contest.

Criteria for Judging

Delivery and Performance, 60%


The spoken piece is delivered from the heart.
Facial expression, hand and body gestures that emphasize the different elements of the performance.
Enunciation is clear. Audience can understand what is being spoken.
Words are pronounced distinctly and correctly.

Overall Impact, 10%


The performer’s physical appearance, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, and evidence of understanding all seem on target and unified
to breathe life into the piece.
Total success of the performance, the degree to which the performance has become more than the sum of its parts.

READERS’ THEATER

1. Readers Theater is an oral form of spoken theater, with one or more persons reading aloud from a script, and using vocal expression to convey
the story. It is a style of theatre in which the actors may or may not memorize their lines. In Readers Theatre, actors use vocal expression to help
the audience understand the story, rather than visual storytelling using props and costumes. Like storytelling, Readers Theater can create images
by suggestion that could never be realistically portrayed on stage. However, you are free to use simple props and actions to help the telling of the
story.
2. The contest is open to Grade 7 students.
3. Piece for the contest will be provided by the Grade 7 Teachers.
4. The piece may be delivered with a manuscript on hand.
5. Officers of the English Language Society are not allowed to join the contest.

Criteria for Judging

Mastery, 30%
Delivery and Synchronization, 50%
Diction, 20%

CHARACTER IMPERSONATION

1. The contest is open to Grade 8 students of Miputak National High School.


2. The participants shall portray characters from Literary Classics or any Fictional or Non-Fictional characters from different Literary Pieces. The
choice of character shall be subject to the approval of their English teacher.
3. Costumes and props are required but participants are discouraged to rent costumes and are urged to create DIY costumes using any resources or
materials available at home.

Criteria for Judging

Creativtity, 40%
Portrayal, 60%

POETRY READING

1. The contest is open to all Grade 9 students.


2. Each section shall be allowed 1 entry only.
3. The spoken word poetry piece will be provided by your English 9 teacher.
4. The spoken poetry should be delivered with a copy at hand.

Criteria for Judging

Mastery, 30%
Delivery and Synchronization, 50%
Diction, 20%
FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES

LITERARY COSTUME DISPLAY

1. The event will start from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM this February 28, 2023.
2. All bona fide students and teachers of Miputak National High School are welcome to join.
3. All the students and teachers in their costumes are automatically included in the event.
4. Participants may opt to choose any character they choose to portray such as in the movies or in shorts stories.
