WOoLant Work Instruction: Prepared By _| Phil Jordan Effective Date veLwit3 Reviewed By | Dan Sylvestre Dec. 13, 2011 ‘Approved By | Edgar Garcia Pagetof4 | Rev.0 : Volant Casing Running Tool (CRTi) Procedi Rig With Pipe Handling Equipment Event Description Inspect and Ready Tool Inspect Volant CRT: Packer Cup for undue wear or leak path. Dies for debris/ice/wax or other build up, Hex head bolts for adequate torque. CAUTION: Watch for pinch points! Ensure adequate air pressure (70-110psi), Follow winter guidelines when necessary. Dope packer cup. Rigging In ‘Stab Casing Running Tool (CRT) into first joint to be run and set by inserting a %" bar into the bump ring and rotate the tool joint clockwise using a chain tong if viewed from the top of the CRTi. NOTE: After dies are set, ensure tool is properly engaged to pipe and cannot fall out while being hoisted over head. Grip pipe containing CRT in pipe handler. Present CRT tool joint box to top drive quill ensuring thread axis alignment. Engage tool joint and make up to proper torque value for connection as listed below. ***Visually confirm that tool joint threads have fully made up to top drive connection*** Alternative to using first joint is to hoist tool up to rig floor using “crown winch’, set tool in stump or grip CRTi tool joint with “iron roughneck and make-up quill connection. “Do not grip Upper Cam Housing, Cage, or Float Cushion if so equipped*** Pick Up Casing Joint Top drive positioned to receive casing joint. Pipe arm grips pipe and presents box end near top drive quill axis. Stab Too! Move top drive and pipe together to stab CRT into joint. Apply enough weight to enable initial reaction torque between CRT and joint. Set Tool Rotate to the right until at least 1,000 ft/Ibs is reached through pipe handler. NOTE: Bump ring should not move relative to pipe Maximum rotation permitted CATI2-45 [1.78 Tums CATHA,2-5.5 | 1.30 Turns 4 CRTI4-7.0 1.10 Turns CRTI1,2-8.63 | 1.25 Turns ***Do not exceed pipe handler torsion capacity*** Pick up to verify engagement, observe pipe handler motion and/or increase on weight indicator, Release pipe handler grip WOLAN | | . effective Date |p. wing "E- | Volant Casing Running Tool (CRTi) Procedure— } Dec. 13, 2011 Rig With Pipe Handling Equipment Page 2 of 4 Revision 0 Makeup Connection Position pine in derrick and ensure alignment with stump. Stab casing connection Turn left to “pop” thread to locate start point. (optional) ‘Activate make up monitoring & control system. (optional), ‘Turn to the right until make up is complete. ~ Feather brake to allow top drive to. follow as threads engage OR compensator lowers pipe Review data, accept/reject* make up according to manufacturer's criteria, *Volant assumes no responsibility for either providing or controlling Make up Torques Lower String Pick up string out of slips. Lower string into hole Apply right-hand torque of 1,000 ft/Ibs or rotate to the right to minimize risk of unintentional release. Release right hand torque gradually to avoid rapid left hand rotation. (Full disengagement from pipe requires combination of left hand tool rotation AND axial compression of tool.) Be aware of stroke in cushion sub or tool when equipped. Set slips Load transfers from too! to slips. Release Tool ‘Make sure pumps are turned off and pressure has been bled down. Set down and turn to the left to release. In order for tool to fully disengage from pipe it is necessary to feather the top drive weight down, Observe break out torques and record them in job notes. Tool is disengaged / locked out when alignment marks on tool coincide, Move top drive to ‘ready’ position as pipe handler positions next joint. Break Out Casing Connection Set tool as described above. Maintain extended axial position. (Do not set down) Apply left hand torque to break connection. (Too! will rotate through full ‘set’ rotation before applying breakout torque) Make sure axial travel is available for casing threads to advance out of the box. Releasing GRTi From Pipe After Joint Has Been Backed Out. ‘Back out joint and lift with the CRT/ to the position where the pipe handling, equipment can accept casing joint, Grip pipe with handling equipment. Set down and turn less than % rotation to the right. Confirm set down weight and rotate to the left until paint ines coincide, ‘Slowly pull up and remove CRTi from casing joint. **When removing CRTi from casing joint, pipe handler must be in-line with CRTi. Misalignment may cause casing to pick up on CRTi causing stress to pipe handler. Remove CRTi slowly from pipe** OLANT | Volant casing Running Tool (cRTI) Procedure — ww Rig With Pipe Han ing Equipment Effective Date Dec. 13, 2021 vP.win3, Page 3 of 4 Revision 0 Rigging Out tet Release and “lock out” tool in stump. Remove air valve and bleed off air pressure in CRTi, (optional) Lift bump ring 4”-6"off casing collar before breaking tool joint. Use iron roughneck to break tool joint torques. Install lifting nubbin and winch tool down to waiting truck, | NOTES: a) Use appropriate tag line to control tool during overhead lifting b) Always use proper tle downs and techniques to secure load Storage T._ Ensure Volant CRT is free of debris/mud/moisture prior to storage. ***1f CRT dies were submerged in drilling fluid, please ensure maintenance is performed prior to the next casing run*** 2. Always store Volant’s CRTi in an approved storage container. 3. Maintain containers internal cleanliness and place container in safe location. Ensure die teeth are free from foreign material that could impair engagement with the casing 2. Do not attempt to run casing with internal coatings or liners without Volant engineering approval 3. Ensure casing pressure has been released before disengaging CRTi. Stay clear when tool is removed from casing after pumping 4, Note that casing seal leakage in extremely cold conditions can result in mud freezing behind jaws resulting in difficulty fully disengaging CRT a. Avoid this condition by bleeding down ALL pressure prior to disengaging CRTi particularly where misalignment is severe. b. Circulate or steam to resolve. 5. Always maintain right hand / clockwise torque while running into the hole. 6. Always release right hand torque gradually to avoid inertia-generated left hand torque that may partially release tool. (Full disengagement requires left hand tool rotation AND axial compression of tool) 7. Keep hands or loose clothing away from rotating tool/casing. CRT may fire resulting in rapid closure of pinch points and tool damage. 9. Check air pressure if tool becomes difficult to set/operate during job. 10.When temperature is below -10°C, steam tool before and throughout casing run to keep seals warm and functioning and to avoid packer cup damage. ‘11.8e aware that packer cup friction and/or side load may be sufficient to pick up a single joint. Dope the packer cup and/or utilize iron roughneck to hold pipe in slips until sufficient string weight is developed (usually 2-3 full length joints). 12.Confirm all “hangers”, “pup joints” and “marker joints" are of the same size/weight as CRTi setup.
