Committee for Quality Control of High-rise Building construction Projects Temporary Electrical Installations and Electrical Instaltation on Building Construction Sites (February, 2008) Electricity on building sites = The most convenient and usually the most economic supply is Myanmar Electricity Power Supply net work. (or Yangon Electricty Supply Board ) = If private generation plant is used it should be installec in accordance with Code of Practice, ... Rule and Regulations. Transportable self-powered generators may also be used and specially sound-proofed type. © Area Electricity Supply Board Authority should be advised of the construction project as soon as possible and site plans are first discussed together with technical information for the construction power. > Permanent Electric Power Demand Programme with break down of yearly electric power requirement for the proposed project shall be submitted and informed to Electric Power Supply authority concerned ‘* In the application of electric power requirement following shall be mentioned as follows: (a) Address of site and site location plan (b) Maximum demand load (in kilowatts) needed during construction (©) Final demand load (in kilowatt) for project when completed (d) Date when supply is required. (e) Name, address and telephone number of the developer and if possible, the builder. () Explain nature of electric load to be used both for construction and permanent electric power. 2 Qverhead or buried electrical cable Site Study Inside Battery Limit of the construction Project. @ Study is there any existing underground cable or overhead line within the battery limit of the construction project. If found any authority concerned shall be contacted and discussed for rerouting or removal as required. So also for cther services such as telephone lines, water pipes etc are to be carried out as above. © Obstruction made by existing underground cable, overhead lines etc. are to be re-routed or made dead or protected by a system of barrier fences and guards as necessary. © Overhead lines clearance safe distances are to be followed according to the rules and regulations. = Generally, (a) Temporary building structure, construction machines etc should be 6 metre away from overhead live line. (b) Underground cables are usually laid between half and one metre deep. (0) Accidental damage to a live or dead underground cable exposed during excavation of earth should be reported to the Authority concemed and get safe declaration Timber ‘gael posts’ and honor fence protection asin powerlines. NB. Warning lights a 2 pervertca post and3iperhorizontal post alter skle are ecommerided. Distribution and wiring “ Electric current is usually supplied to the site at 400V three phase giving 230V single phase. Such voltages are necessary for heavy machinery and fixed flooding ete,(see table) For portable lighting and hand-held portable tools the supply should be reduced to 100V single or three phase using the type of transformer referred to in the Table below. = Wiring in temporary buildings and work under construction Voltage(AC) | Use on site "Type of cable -Earthing 400 volts, | Supply to distribution unit Continuous metal | Metal sheath or armour thee phase Heavy machinery such as tower cranes, | sheathed or must be earthed. "Special precautions are necessary for electric arc welding * PVC-Polyvinyichioride, PCP-Polychloropropylene, HOFR-Heatoil and fre resistance, TRS-Tough rubber sheathing Main voltage distribution © The layout of cables on site should be carefully planned and those likely to be in position for a long time ( eg supply to a fixed crane) should be well buried and laid on.a route where they are not likely to be damaged by earthmoving or other site vehicles. The cables should be set at least 600mm below final ground level and to be protected by tiles. At roads and access ways the cables should be encased in PVC heavy gauge pipes which must be evenly supported. When the trench is filled in, the cable route should be indicated at “each end, and wherever practicable, by surface markers at regular intervals. * Cables should not lie on the ground but if this is necessary for short periods they should be encase with reinforce hosepipe. cr Where overhead cables have to be used (e.g. fixed flood lighting ) the cable should be supported on hangers, from an independent wire suspended between poles sited around the edge of the site, with spurs to supply the various lights, machines and work under construction. Avoid running cables in positions where fouling by cranes or earthmoving machinery is likely. where possible they should be indicated by timber goal post markers. fet conacnnopes psy hmonn gee Comer x awn sv © Long trailing flexible cable should be avoided by planning the installation 80 as to bring the outlet units near to the working area. © It is recommended that the work should be enthrusted to licensed electrical contractor previously who has a good name in the electrical installation. ‘oy Sieatoais ov secret ces (ike) (Chen ae ‘ovat toting Fencune ndprabe toe ‘ott ‘Fes oot TU sg pase outer our orzou. A guard over the lamp should always be provided and the lampholder must not be in metallic connection with the guard. = Don't use lamphoders fitted with pin contacts, intended to be pressed through the cable sheath. It is much safer to use purpose-made lighting cables . * Don't use bayonet adaptors to make extensions to the installation or in place of socket-outlets and plugs. Where possible keep all cables of the ground. Replace electric lamps immediately after breakage, BUT MAKE SURE THE CURRENT IS SWITCHED OFF FIRST — the filament may still be live even though the glass bulb is broken. Earthing * The non-current carrying metalwork of the distribution system, and fixed appliances connected to it, must be efficiently earthed, a separate earth electrode system must be installed. Periodic maintenance of plant, including test and check inspections of wiring, is essential for efficient working and safety. “ Monitored earthing system (EMU) are recommended for transportable plant operating at any voltage above 110volts and supplied by flexible cables. In these systems a very low voltage current circulates continuously in the earthing circuit. If this circuit is interrupted or broken the electricity supply to the plant is automatically cut off and remains cut off until the plant to earth is made effective. These are not, however, substitutes for the basic safety measures of approved installation methods. % Keep a record of all tests and inspections done on the installation, tools and portable appliances. isplay of posters General © Site electrical supervisor are to be assigned for inspection, necessary checking of the temporary electrical installation and electrical equipment every day and shall give a daily report to the site project engineer/electrical engineer that they are safe = Portable fire fighting equipment capable of electric fire fighting units are to install in every important places such as in switch room, near switch board, site office, work places. & In case of emergency like fire the indicative escape route light, warning light should be illuminated and placed in vital locations both in day and night time. Alarm bell and siren should activated automatically or manually at the same time with the light. Monthly emergency drill should be exercised “* Emergency electric supply should be provided in case of normal power supply failure. It should be capable of supply power to the site office, tower crane emergency equipment, concrete mixing plant area and to those area which need uninterrupted electric power supply. The mmi is the value in lux (measured on the task or on the ground as appropriate) below which the illurrinance at any point should not be allowed to fall. It is the value which must be sought and check regularly, using a light meter which is accurate within the limits laid down in BS standard at the levels to be measured (3) For special tasks where accurate colour rendering is required, lighting by fluorescent lamp luminaries is recommended using one of the lamp types suitable for this purpose, e.g. ‘Northlight’ or ‘Colour Matching’. for very accurate work the illuminance may need to be raised to 1000 lux. 10 “aft = 0.3048m.
