Trash racks are used at low head hydropower stations to prevent debris from entering turbines and damaging equipment. This study analyzed different design parameters of trash racks, including bar spacing, rack inclination, and rack length, to determine the most energy efficient configuration. Testing showed that smaller bar spacing, a rack inclination of 45 degrees, and longer rack lengths improved energy production efficiency by reducing head losses through the trash rack system.
