ASSESSMENT: Art Commentary

 Subject of the artwork: What is it all about?

From my perception of this painting, I think it gives us a view of what is “simple family”
the simplicity of having a dinner or lunch together with your loved ones. It also shows the
culture of the painting; praying before eating your food, the way the woman dress, and the
surroundings reflect the idea of “rural community” or “province” that brings me the idea of
“simple living”.

 Content of the artwork: What do you think the artist wanted to communicate? - Is it factual,
conventional, or subjective?

Giving appreciation of simple life, the food, animals, and the family. It’s Factual.
Because you can easily recognize what the painting trying to portray or the meaning itself
because of the pattern, object, or color the artist used. You can easily identify it because the
artist uses a simple way of manner for the audience to recognize it easily.

 If you could change one thing about this picture, what would it be? Why?

Well for me this painting it’s already good. But because there is a question I need to
answer I think it’s the cat. I prefer the cat is awake because the food they have is fish, cats love
fish so there is a huge possibility that the cat is awake waiting for the fish right? And it’s good to
see if the cat is eating with them.
 What would the title be if you had created this?

I’d like to name this “Sa luob ng bahay kubo” because this is what you expect or imagine
when you come inside the nipa hut. The sight of the simplicity of life, that this painting is what
you’ll imagine every time you mention “simple family.

 What prompted you to select this image over other artworks?

Because honestly, this painting is easy to explain, to put a perception on it. Not like the
other paintings that sometimes it’s complicated to provide words. Also, this is the fave painting
we have in our house, my dream of having a complete family eating together.
