PURPOSE
This specification covers mandatory requirements to be complied by vendor for preparation of
quotation to supply Ammonia Compressors to Cerveceria Polar. The latest technology offered by the
proponents shall be taken into consideration in this proposal.
SCOPE
Supply to Cerveceria Polar C.A. at San Joaquin Plant, ammonia compression equipment as indicated
in this specification, including compressor accessories and controls necessary to handle ammonia gas
returning from users and feed compressed ammonia gas to evaporation equipment.
The proposal shall include design, fabrication, supply of equipment and materials, packing and shipping
to the installation site and technical assistance for commissioning and startup at site.

1. REQUIREMENTS:
Equipment: Ammonia compressors
Quantity: i.- 2x900 Refrigeration Ton
ii.- Optional: 1x1800 Refrigeration Ton
Nominal Capacity: 900 Refrigeration Ton @ -6 ºC or +3 ºC; and 1800 Refrigeration Ton @
-6 ºC or +3 ºC
Type: Screw, fully automatic operation.
Installation site: Vicinity of current equipment shall include accessories to be connected to
the existing manifolds.
Admitted noise level: < 80 dbA
Equipment must be able to handle ammonia gas suction temperatures of -6 ºC or +3 ºC.
Lubricant cooling: Indirect cooling with boiling high pressure ammonia refrigerant used as
the coolant in a thermosiphon process
In case of Oil Supply MOBIL Gargoyle SHC 326 shall be used.
2. OPERATION VARIABLES
Suction temperature: -6 ºC and +3 ºC
Discharge temperature: 75 ºC
3. EXISTING SYSTEM

Two (02) ammonia suction accumulators of 1600 Refrigeration Ton each.
Two (02) low pressure ammonia tanks of 1300 Refrigeration Ton.
Eight (08) screw type ammonia compressors (three of 350 Refrigeration Ton, two of 750
Refrigeration Ton, three of 950 Refrigeration Ton).
Two (02) secondary oil separator of 2050 Refrigeration Ton each.
Fifteen (15) shell and tube water cooling ammonia condensers of 380 Refrigeration Ton
each.
One (1) evaporative condenser 600 Refrigeration tons.
Two (02) ammonia receiver tanks of 15 m3 each.
4. ACCESSORIES TO BE SUPPLIED
Screw type ammonia compressors shall include their related automation controls, auxiliary
equipment, piping and interconnection accessories. The above list indicates major components
to be supplied; however vendor shall include in his proposal all accessories required to
guaranty properly and secure operation.
Measurement Devices needed to calculate compressor efficiency expressed as

Automatic capacity control system able to control from 10% to 100% of total capacity.
High efficiency oil separator with retention, shutting off and Safety Relief Valves
Oil cooler, filter and pump, using ammonia for cooling, and horizontal oil separator
Oil collector tank
Oil Low Pressure Alarm and Oil Low Pressure Shutdown devices.

Ammonia High Pressure Shutdown and Relief devices

Hardware PLC S7 300. For Communication redundancy the PLC must have two
Ethernet Communication cards.
Simatic Panel PC IL 77. For Communication redundancy the Panel PC must have two
Ethernet Communication cards.
a. - One Ethernet Communication Card for Process Network.
b. - One Ethernet Communication Card for Control Network using INAT OPC
SERVER TCPIPH1 (100-3100-01).
NOTE: If more than one Compressor Cabinet would be supplied, only one of the Control
Cabinets must include the Simatic Panel PC grouping them by pairs.
Development of PLC and SCADA software according to Polar Specifications.
5.2. Electrical
5.2.1- General
Incoming voltage: 4160 Volts
Short Circuit source: 40 kAsym.
Frequency: 60 Hz ± 0.1.
5.2.4- Metalclad interlock shield cables for open electrical installation (4.16 kV).
5.2.5- Control cabinet
Control voltage source: external 480 Volts.
Control voltage: 220 V. Control Transformer to be supplied by bidder.
ESD (Emergency Shutdown) button per Compressor.
6. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS:

7. DOCUMENTATION:
Detailed drawings shall be submitted for approval prior to fabrication.
Design calculation (capacity, pressure, seismic) shall be submitted prior to fabrication for
approval
Design calculation for heating / refrigeration.
Connections List, characteristics and description.
Drawings: Dimensional, Connections, Installation, Handling etc. for approval
Stamped: ASME or TUV, Stamp Certificate and Construction Materials Certification for
approval when applies
9. PARTICULAR CONSIDERATIONS
In case of contradictions among referenced specifications, in order to ensure maximum
operation and security reliability, the demanding one shall govern.
Any modification, to specifications described or related to this document shall be
submitted in written to Polar, for their approval
This specification and the attached drawings shall be used for the quotation preparation,
however the vendor should present in his proposal up dated engineering and technologies
Polar must have access to manufacturer workshop, during the fabrication and equipment
tests
Supervision and commissioning personnel must be able to communicate in Spanish or
English
