DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 8 – QUARTER III

I. Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate understanding of key concepts of Axiomatic
Structure of Geometry and Triangle Congruence.

II. Performance Standard:

The learners shall be able to formulate an organized plan to handle a real-
life situation, to be able to communicate mathematical thinking with
coherence and clarity in formulating, investigating, analyzing, and solving
real-life problems involving congruent triangles using appropriate and
accurate representations.

III. Learning Competency:

Illustrate triangle congruence (M8GE-IIId-1).

IV. Learning Objectives:

1. Define congruent triangles;
2. Draw and label the corresponding parts of two congruent triangles;
3. Appreciate and relate triangle congruence in real-life.

Subject Matter:
Topic: Congruent Triangles

Values Integration: Equality/Fairness

Across Curriculum: TLE, Science
Government Thrust: National Arts Month

V. Teaching Learning Procedures:

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. Daily Routine

Everybody let us all stand for a prayer.

Nikko will you please lead the prayer? Yes Ma’am.
(Everyone is praying.)

Good morning, class! Good morning and mabuhay Ma’am Jhona!

(Students will pick-up pieces of papers,

Thank you. Before you take your seats, trash and arrange their chairs.)
kindly pick-up pieces of papers or trash (Students will take their seats.)
and arrange chairs.
Now, say present if your name is called.
(The teacher will start calling the name of (Students are saying present as to their
the students.) name is being called.)
B. Lesson Proper
 Review

Class, what was our topic last meeting? Ma’am about the Axiomatic structures and
Yes, Hazel! describing Mathematical System.

Very good! That’s correct! To have a better understanding in triangle

Why is it important that we study these congruence.
concepts? Yes, Ken.

Very good! You have learned the concepts

of axiomatic structures and describe the
mathematical system in general. In
geometry in particular, axiomatic structures
consists of some defined and undefined
terms, postulates and theorems.
 Activity

Okay, let’s have an activity! Group (Students are grouping themselves by

yourselves by row. You have to place the row.)
tangram pieces to complete the puzzle.
You have 5 minutes to do the activity.
(The teacher distributes the tangram
puzzle.)

Are you ready? Yes Ma’am!

 Analysis

Now class, what have you observed to the

activity I gave to you? What is the
idea/concepts shown in the activity?
Yes, Karla. Ma’am it shows different triangles.

Yeah, that’s right! Now, how did you know

that the cut-triangle is fit to the puzzle?
Yes Mark. Ma’am by looking its size.

Yes, very good! Through its size and Ma’am by looking its shape.
shape, we can easily place the tangram
pieces and complete the puzzle.

Now, who has an idea of what is our topic (Students are thinking and formulating
for today? concepts on their mind.)

Oh Joan! Ma’am it’s about triangles.

Okay, what kind of triangle? Congruent Triangle!

Yes! Very good!
 Abstraction

So, our topic for today is about Triangle

Congruence!

As we look back to the tangram triangle,

we cannot place the tangram piece to the
puzzle if it is not fit or equal.

What do you mean by congruence or the

word “congruent”?

Okay, Shaenel! Ma’am when we say congruent, it means

equal and they have the same
When we say congruence, it means having measurement.
the same shape and size and it is denoted
by ≅ . The top part of the symbol,
, is the sign for similarity and
indicates the same shape. The bottom part
symbol, =, is the sign of equality and
indicates the same size.

Definition of Congruent Triangles:

Two triangles are congruent if and only if
the corresponding sides and the
corresponding angles are congruent. Pairing the parts of one group to the parts
of another group.
What do you mean by correspondence?
Yes, that’s true!
Ma’am these are three pairs of
Assume 𝛥𝑁𝐴𝑇 coincides with 𝛥𝐺𝐸𝑂, such corresponding vertices, angles, and sides.
that the vertices of 𝛥𝑁𝐴𝑇 fit exactly over
the vertices of 𝛥𝐺𝐸𝑂. The correspondence
can be created between triangles. What
are its correspondences?

Very good! By CPCTC Postulates,

Corresponding Parts of Congruent
Triangles are Congruent.

Conversely, if the corresponding parts of

the two triangles are congruent, then the
two triangles are congruent. So, what are
the congruent angles and sides?

Yes, Alvin!

That’s correct!
 Application

Activity: Draw and Name me!

Anyone who can draw 𝛥ABC ≅ 𝛥DEF? Put (Students practice drawing the given
identical markings on corresponding triangles in their notebook.)
congruent parts.

Okay, who will answer?

Yes, Dave!

Ma’am congruent angles are ∠ A ≅ ∠ D ,

∠ B ≅ ∠ E, ∠C ≅∠ F .

Very Good! Let’s give a round of applause Congruent Sides are AB ≅ DE, AC ≅ DF ,
to Dave. BC ≅ EF .

Now, let’s take a look for these pictures.

Can you see how the idea/concepts of
congruence is used in the mass production
of various products?
Yes Ma’am! Like for example our money
Yes, Rj! bills, it has standard measurement made
by Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas.

Ma’am about the keys, it has also exact

Very good! Yes, Karen. design and pattern fit to the door knob.

In spoon Ma’am, it has specific size and

How about the spoon? Okay, Brittz. shape design for specific usage in a menu.

(Students are thinking.)

Yes! That’s true! So how important does a Ma’am through the idea of congruences,
concept of congruence applied into real-life people can identify what things are equal
scenario? How does it relate into our daily and fit to a specific thing/situation. Even in
activities? our lives, we, people want a fair/equal
treatment among individuals.
That’s correct!

Yes! We must know and learn how to treat

people equally regardless of their status,
religion/beliefs and race. By treating
people equally, we can achieve peace and
joy!

(The teacher is integrating the value.)

 Assessment

Class, do you have questions? No ma’am!

Get ¼ sheet of paper and answer this in
10 minutes.

Directions: TRUE or FALSE. Congruent

parts are marked in the given figures.
Write T if the statement is correct and F if it
is not in the blank before the number.
(Students are answering.)

(Students exchange their papers.)

Okay let’s check! Exchange your papers
with your seatmates. Okay what is you
answer? True
No. 1 False
No. 2 False
No. 3 False
No. 4 True
No. 5 True
No. 6 False
No. 7 True
No. 8 True
No. 9 and last True
No. 10.
Shaenel, Ma’am! Angel, ma’am!
Who got a perfect score? (Students are clapping.)
Very good!
How about the others? (Students are saying their scores.)

Say your scores if your name is called.

(The teacher records the score of the

students.)

 Ending

Did you learn something today, class? Yes, Ma’am.

Okay study in advance about triangle Goodbye and thank you, Ma’am Jhona.
congruence postulates. Thank you for Mabuhay!
coming and see you tomorrow. Goodbye
class!
