Formal Reflection on my personal achievement mind map

Personal Achievement
Description: A prefect (in Nigeria) is a person who takes charge of a certain area of a school or
duties of those in authority when they are unavailable or when an older student given official
charge of the conduct and tutoring of several younger students in his/her residence hall. I was
made a library prefect when I was in grade 11 and it was the most notable day of my life. It all
started when my classmates and I embarked on a mandatory leadership camp for a week, we
were grouped randomly and were given tasking activities that tested our leadership skills. I
performed excellently and was rewarded with my prefect ship.
Personal Relevancy: This achievement is especially important to me because it gave me this
unshakeable belief in myself and helped me forge the person I am today. It gave me the
opportunity to get to know different people and display my leadership skills on a larger scale.
This experience was also a notable one for my parents who were unbelievably proud of me and
that is why this event is very special to me.
Skills Development: During this time in my life, I developed a lot of skills that help me out
consistently today, such as:
Social skills: This event helped me to get better at communicating and collaborating with
others. It also helped me use my initiative to resolve conflicts. An example of this was when two
of my teammates were fighting about the shift schedule and I was able to resolve it by carefully
explaining the order of shifts and the conflict was settled, this was an everyday occurrence for
me.
Creative skills: There were many times that I had to use my creativity and individuality to solve
real-life problems, such as planning committee meetings and parties, decorating themed events
(Christmas, valentine’s day, new year’s and so on), coming up with fundraising ideas. This really
helped me to take my creativity to the next level and use it to help people.
Leadership Skills: Out of all the things I have mentioned, strengthening my leadership skills was
the most apparent. This event helped me to give presentations more confidently, take charge in
group activities and learn how to present myself better to the world.
Self-awareness: During this event I learned a lot about myself, such as:
a. I love helping people out and encouraging them to do better
b. I dislike it when people do not contribute to group projects and assignments.
c. I found out that I am great at presentations and debating.
d. I was able to make new friendships and connections with others that will last for a long
time
e. I found out that I am a risk taker and a strong believer in people and myself.
Future connections: As you can see from my reflection, I would not be the person I am today
without this special event, and I plan to use everything I have learned for my future. An
example of how I have applied my skills and lessons to my personal life is my chosen career, by
becoming a biomedical scientist I get to collaborate with different people who want to develop
the things necessary for better healthcare in our world. I plan on using the skills I acquired to
lead my team properly and creatively strategize different methods to consistently improve
ourselves.
