LEARNING OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to talk about equal rights using Present Simple tense and reflexive
pronouns.

• The teacher talks about part of a speech delivered by Malala at the United Nations on July 12, 2013, and observes
students' previous knowledge with questions like
1. What is the speech about?
2. Who is Malala?
3. Is she an activist?
While speaking
• Using the prediction strategy, talk about the questions like
1. Is she famous for fighting for girls’ education?
2. Are there other people that fight for equal rights for all?
3. After answering the questions and discussing equal rights, the students must make their own speech.
4. Each group with 5 or 6 people prepare a short speech about the suggested topics (Ending violence against women; Saying
no to racism; Saying no to bullying; gender equality) including the simple present tense and reflexive pronouns in the
structure of the sentences and to present to the whole class.
Post-speaking
• In your opinion, the speech presented by classmates showed arguments in a simple and clear way?
• How can world leaders and the government promote gender equality in our society?
• What can each of us do to avoid racism?

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS Some Ss could have problems with the new vocabulary.

SOLUTIONS Teacher takes some dictionaries to the class to help them and try to explain the meaning using synonyms.

Para iniciar a atividade, falei sobre o discurso feito por Malala nas Nações Unidas em 12 de julho de 2013, e observei o conhecimento prévio dos
alunos sobre o tema. Lancei questionamentos e procurei ver o que eles já conheciam sobre o assunto. Todos já conheciam Malala e sua luta.
Em seguida, busquei discutir sobre o tema “Igualdade de direitos”. Depois disso, os alunos precisavam fazer seu próprio discurso. Formei equipes de 5
ou 6 pessoas que precisavam preparar um breve discurso, 4 ou 5 frases, sobre os temas sugeridos (Acabar com a violência contra a mulher; Diga não ao
racismo; Diga não ao bullying; Igualdade de gênero) incluindo o presente simples e os pronomes reflexivos na estrutura das frases para apresentar para
toda a turma.
Devido a falta de prática na habilidade oral, os alunos apresentaram bastante dificuldade para pronunciar as palavras. Além disso, o medo de errar
quando se fala em inglês se torna um pesadelo quando o aluno precisa expressar suas falas na frente dos colegas. Por isso, o aluno se sente mais tímido.
Nessa atividade busquei mostrar que não podemos nos abalar pela timidez ou pelo medo de errar. Caso o aluno tivesse problema com a pronúncia eu
busquei ajudar completando as frases ou repetindo a palavra de forma correta.
