Descriptor Exceeds Expectations
Indicators Critique exceeds expectations in one
or more of the following ways:
● Answers are rich in detail
● Multiple examples are given
where only one is required
● Answers demonstrate musical
understanding beyond grade
level
● Answers demonstrate an
understanding of the needs of
the performing group as well
as the individual
● Answers are rich in music
vocabulary
Meets Expectations
Critique shows most of the following
characteristics:
● Every question is answered
● Answers give reasons, details,
or other means of supporting
an opinion
● Answers demonstrate
constructive criticism
● Ideas are brainstormed for the
future
● Answers include some music
vocabulary
B, B- or C+
Approaching Expectations
Critique shows one or more of the
following characteristics:
● Some questions are answered
and on-topic.
● Some answers may be too short
or lacking in detail.
● Answers may be lacking in variety
or thoughtfulness
● One answer may be left blank
● No areas of improvement for the
group are suggested
● Answers to do not demonstrate
an understanding of constructive
criticism
● Answers are lacking in music
vocabulary or vocabulary is used
incorrectly
C or below
Establishing Expectations
Critique shows two or more of the
following characteristics:
● Some answers are left blank.
● Multiple answers may be
copied or identical to
classmates
● Answers are too short to
demonstrate understanding
● Answers do not engage with
the material or do not provide
reasons for indecisiveness or
conflict.
● Answers are rude, or
negatively directed at an
individual, or off-topic
