Malaysia: Healthcare System

Malaysia, a democratic monarchy comprises 13


states & the Federal territory (Kuala Lumpur,
Putrajaya & Labuan), has 2 different geographical
regions;
 the Peninsular Malaysia; and
 Healthcare in Malaysia is mainly under the responsibility  Sabah and Sarawak (& Labuan) on the Borneo
of the government's : Ministry of Health Malaysia (Federal) Island,
 Malaysia operating a two-tier healthcare system
divided by the South China Sea
consisting of both a government-run universal healthcare Land area: 330, 713sq km
system; and a co-existing private healthcare system Population (2016): 31.7million; M=51.7%; F=48.3%
MOH plays different roles accordingly:
1. Healthcare services provider
2. Policy Maker;
3. Regulator & Enforcer; or/and
4. Provide Training & Research.
The roles and functions are separated by
programmes or divisions or sections or units

Political (Minister and Deputy Minister of Health),
Administrator (Secretary General) with 2 Deputy
