BIOLOGY TERM II NOTES EXCRETION - When living things get rid of waste

materials of metabolism.
CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING THINGS
Metabolic waste are surplus or toxic thus MUST be
MOVEMENT removed by the body.
RESPIRATION
SENSITIVITY Example: Carbondioxide, Nitrogen, Compounds,
NUTRITION Water, Phosphates, Sulphates.
EXCRETION
REPRODUCTION Done by --> Lungs, Kidneys and Skin.
GROWTH
NUTRITION - The process of obtaining foods by
MOVEMENT - Change of position needed to living things.
respond to the surroundings
Plants feed by Photosynthesis
Animals --> move whole body = locomotion
Plant ---> move part of body = localised movement Animals feed on plants and other animals.

IMPORTANCE OF MOVEMENT
* Food * Shelter * Avoid enemies

RESPIRATION - The process by which energy is

realised from food.

The realised energy is used for Growth and

Movement.

Respiration ---> Glucose reacts with Oxygen to give

out ---> Realised energy + Carbon dioxide + Water

GLUCOSE + OXYGEN = ENERGY + CO2 + WATER

SENSITIVITY - Detecting or sensing changes in the

environment using sense organs

Changes in the environment ---> Stimuli

Sense organs are --> Nose, Eyes, Skin and Tongue

Centipede --> long antenne --> touch ground infront

of them to decide if okay to move fwd.

Plants --> will grow towards the light direction.

GROWTH - Permanent increase in size and shape.

Individual start small and grow into adulthood.

Animals --> maximum size

Plants ---> get bigger over all of their life.

REPRODUCTION - Process by which mature

organisms produce offspring of the same kind.

It keeps animals and plants species in existence.
