Part 1 Documentary on Philippine American War

1. After viewing the documentary, how will the team view Gregorio Del Pilar’s heroism?

When I've watched the YouTube documentary about Gregorio del Pilar's bravery, he displays courage by
fighting many battles in the Revolutionary Army against the Americans and Spaniards at a young age.
Gregorio Del Pilar is willing to risk his own life and has no problem prioritizing others. He is fiercely
courageous and committed to his nation and people. He does not come from a wealthy family instead, he
works for his uncles Marcello H. Del Pillar, a propagandist for the Philippine Revolution, and Deodato
Arellano, the first President of Katipunan. People in the Bulacan province where he was born called him
Goyo. Because to his financial need, he supports his uncles by working and being a vendor. Because of
this, he was able to attend the Ateneo Municipal de Manila in 1881 and complete a Bachelor of Arts
degree. On January 1, 1897, Gregorio engaged in his first combat, which was known as Kakarong De Sili
in Pandi Bulacan. The Spaniards assaulted and slaughtered the Katipuneros. The Spaniards did not have
enough men to fight that's why they did not able to win the battle. Gregorio Del Pilar pleased the first
President Emilio Aguinaldo, who appointed him as a Tinyente in Pangasinan. Gregorio Del Pilar fought
Maj. Peyton March on December 2, 1899. Gregorio Del Pilar attempted to survive the Battle of Tirad
Pass and perished at the age of twenty-four as the Americans were pursuing Emilio Aguinaldo. According
to many, Gregorio Del Pilar's company was betrayed by a Filipino, and the Americans shot him in the
back. Gregorio Del Pilar is regarded as an American Protector and has distinguished himself in numerous
conflicts despite without a military education. Based on the accounts of Gregorio Del Pilar, I see his
heroism as selfless because he was able to lead his people at a young age and risk his own life.
