Introduction
□ Make sure you have 3 lines minimum 5 lines maximum
□ The first line of the introduction (opening statement)
□ Background information
□ Thesis Statement: In this essay, I will deal with my opinion ……..
Body
□ Start with your topic sentence giving your opinion about the topic: in my opinion/ to
my mind, personally,
□ Have you organized the essay in an easy to understand manner? Sequencing markers ,
firstly, secondly etc..
□ For each opinion, did you include facts and details to support your opinion?=
(supportive sentences)
□ Remember to use linkers and try to avoid using “but”, “and” or “Also” and never an
ever “So”.
Conclusion
□ Begin it with a conclusion expression like to sum up, to conclude, In a nutshell etc..
□ Do not give your opinion at the conclusion but a recommendation, suggestion, or
solution.
□ It has to be the shortest paragraph maximum 3 lines
Overall
□ Check that you have 3 paragraphs
□ Leave one intro between each paragraph.
□ Connect your ideas in the same paragraph by means of linkers and connectors.
□ Reread your essay. Are you convincing? Do you provide enough reasons for the reader
to believe your opinion?
□ Did you write in an interesting and engaging manner?
