Hindustan Zinc has 4 mines in India with the production capacity of 8.6 million tonnes
per annum
 Rampura Agucha – 6 million tonnes per annum
 Sindesar Khrud – 0.5 million tonnes per annum
 Rajpura Dariba – 0.9 million tonnes per annum
 Zawar – 1.2 milllion tonnes per annum

The production of Zawar mine for the year 2009 - 2010 is 28,120 tonnes of contained
zinc and 17,370 tonnes of contained lead in FY 2010

Sampling and sample preparation process

 Size of ROM is around 50cm in diameter
 Sampling is done through mechanical riffle samplers
 The ore is crushed underground before being hoisted to the surface.
 The ore is crushed from 50 cm diameter to 6inches using jaw crusher
 The jaw crusher can handle upto 2000 tonnes / day
 The ore from 6 inches is reduced to ½ inches using secondary crusher
 There are two secondary cone crusher each with the capacity of 700 – 1000
tonnes / day
 The crushed ore is send for milling
 The milling operation is done through ball mill
 The ball mill reduces the size of the ore from ½ inch to 200 microns
 The capacity of ball mill is 4000 tonnes / day
 After milling the ore undergoes flotation process to form concentrate
 Zinc and lead concentrates produced are transferred to our smelters

Life of equipments:
 The average life of sampling and sample preparation equipments like jaw
crusher, cone crusher is from 15 - 20 years depending upon the maintenance

Requirements of Tata steel – West Bokari mines

 Currently the mining activity has come down, so there is no immediate
requirement of any sampling equipments
 The ore extraction capacity is planned to be increased from 1.2 million tonnes
to 1.5 million tonnes
 There would be requirement of these sampling equipments after couple of
years
