HCL is the only integrated producer of primary refined copper in India that
utilises both indigenous and imported concentrates as well as imported and
indigenous scrap.
Malanjkhand copper deposit is the single largest copper deposit of India with
nearly 70% of the country’s reserve and contributing around 80% to HCL’s
total copper production.
Open pit mine with a capacity of 2 million TPA of ore with a matching
concentrator plant, Tailing Disposal System and other auxiliary facilities.
Sample flow:
The size of the ROM is 1200 mm
Sampling is done using Manual methods
Sample is collected for every 40 minutes, 2 to 3 samples are collected during
each sampling
Sample preparation is done in two stages crushing and milling
Sample preparation equipments like jaw crusher, cone crusher are installed in
concentration plant
Crushing:
Crushing operation is done in three stages
1. Primary crusher – Primary crushing operation is done using jaw crusher
which reduces the size from 1200 mm to 12 mm
They have one jaw crusher with the feed rate of 870 tonnes / hour
2. Secondary crusher – Secondary crushing is done using cone crusher which
reduces the size from +12mm to -12mm
They have two cone crusher with the feed rate of 650 tonnes / hour
3. Tertiary crusher - Tertiary crushing is done using tertiary crusher which
further reduces the size of the ore
They have 2 tertiary crusher with the feed rate of 550T / hr
Milling operation
1. Milling operation is done using 4 ball mills
2. Chrome grinding ball mills can reduce the size of the ore upto 200 mesh
3. The capacity of ball mills is 200 – 300 tonnes / hour
After milling the ore is send to laboratory for various tests like wet analysis etc
Life of equipments:
The average life of sample preparation equipments like jaw crusher, cone crusher
varies between 12 – 15 years
