I. BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

Solid waste management is considered a pressing global issue calling for an immediate
response from the government and its people. The Philippines has a continuously rising amount of
waste and is expected to further increase in the succeeding years. As reviewed, associated
problems with solid waste management in the country include an increasing amount of solid waste,
weak law implementation, scarcity of sanitary landfills, and improper disposal.
This project proposal mainly focuses on Solid Waste, specifically plastic wastes. A school is a
place where students spend most of their time within a day. It is a special environment that exists to
improve the learning process of children. Aside from quality education, health and security of the
children are one of the top concerns of nearly every parent and school official. It is understood that a
clean and healthy school environment not only does affect students but the teachers and other
school staff as well.
Alamada Sabawa Elementary School was one of the blessed schools in the Philippines if it was
granted by the Three Acts of Goodness of cash assistance. The school is so much thankful that
there are foundations like this who are passionately helping in uplifting the needs of the young
Filipino people.

II. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The following are the objectives of the project:
1. To instill the value of proper waste segregation of recyclable materials in Alamada
Sabawa elementary School.
2. To encourage participation and awareness on proper waste management.
3. To maintain cleanliness of school.

III. SIGNIFICANCE AND RELEVANCE OF THE PROJECT

By implementing recycling programs in schools, teachers and administrators demonstrate

environmental responsibility and good decision making. School recycling programs also offer
hands-on, real-life project-based learning opportunities to teach students about sustainability. It
also allows for service-learning by offering hands-on experiences that go beyond classroom
learning. For example, students might participate in community waste collection days or share
recycling tips with neighbors. Service learning provides students with valuable experience
volunteering in the community and teaches new skills such as communications, team-building,
critical thinking, and decision-making.
