3.1 Factor does the effectiveness of a swimming pool heat exchanger (boiler)

Engineers in the industry often find themselves in a position to find heat exchangers that have features
to achieve specific heat transfer tasks. The objective is to heat or cool a specific fluid at a known mass
flow at rate and temperature to the desired. Hence the rate of heat transfer in prospective heat the
converter is

η = (Energy output)/ (Energy input) X 100

Based on the above calculations, we identify some of the following factors:-

1) Size

The size of a heat pump pool heater involves many factors. Basically, heaters are used according to the
surface area of the pool and the difference between the pool and the average air temperature. Other
factors such as the heating load for the outdoor pool, wind exposure, humidity levels and cold night
temperatures affect. Therefore, pools located in areas with higher average wind speeds on the pool
surface, low humidity and cold nights will require greater heating.

2) Cost

The cost for heating influenced by various factors. Among of the condition of the pool in a closed state
or not and the location of the pool. To heat the pool continuously and get the best savings on heating
costs, it is important to choose a large enough quality heat pump. The higher the price of a cost the
longer the life of the heater can be used.

3) Installation and maintenance

Installation and maintenance of heat pump pool heater can optimize its efficiency. It is the best to ask a
qualified professional to install heaters, perform complex maintenance or repair tasks especially
electrical connections and mechanical. Maintenance should be done such as adjusting the pool heater
because many parts of the heat pump pool heater contain electric current. With proper installation and
maintenance, a heat pump pool heater can last 10 years or more.

4) Material

The materials used in the construction of the heat exchanger must confirm to the exact characteristics
with the conditions of the size of the pool and the surrounding location being an important
consideration in the selection of the heat exchanger. The materials used are also environmentally
friendly and energy efficient.

5) Heat transfer rate

Quality is important in the selection of a heat exchanger. It transfers heat at a set rate to reach the
desired temperature fluid changes at a given mass flow rate. Improper selection will reduce the heat
transfer rate and not reach the specified quality.

3.2 Ways to improve the swimming pool heat exchanger performance

The heat exchanger allows heat from the liquid to move to the second liquid without the two liquids
having to mix or come into direct contact. An important principle of a heat exchanger is that it transfers
heat without transferring the heat carrying fluid. If the heat exchanger has a wide channel then it will
take longer to build up any hard water scale. Therefore your heat exchanger will have a longer lifespan.

Many types of heat exchangers are used to heat swimming pools and they differ dramatically in design,
performance and heat transfer efficiency. Some heat exchanger designs look large such as shells and
tubes, finned tubes and others.

But internally it only has a very small heat transfer surface area that provides contact between the pool
water and the heated water. If the unit does not have sufficient surface area, no matter how much
energy is put into the heat exchanger, it will not be able to transfer it all to the pool.

3.3 Effect of swimming pool heat exchanger operating temperature

The temperature of the hot and cold liquid is important for the heat exchanger to transfer thermal
energy to the pool. If the hot water temperature is too low, the available energy will not be channeled
through the heat exchanger. However, the flow rate of pool water is equally important.

The difference between hot liquid and coolant is very important in heat exchangers. The coolant should
always be at a lower temperature than the hot liquid. A lower coolant temperature will take in more
heat from the hot liquid than a hotter coolant temperature.

4.0 Conclusion

4.1 Effects of nature and properties of swimming pool heat exchanger

Regarding the nature and properties of heat exchangers, professional personnel should give attention to
operations with proper excess air. For example proper boiler operation requires a certain level of excess
air to ensure complete combustion. If the system is operating with too much excess air, it can reduce
the efficiency of the boiler by heating and removing this air cushion. Operating a boiler without
excessive air can result in reduced efficiency because the construction material may not be resistant to
application conditions.

To ensure a long lifespan, professional personnel should have a solid understanding of pool heat
exchangers (boilers) and their impact on natural conditions. Moreover professional personnel should
pay attention in the operation and maintenance of heat exchangers. For example, monitoring the
surface thickness of a swimming pool and sampling and analysis of metals for surface conditions.

Efficient and effective problem solving is the key to the long term operational success with a complete
equipment process. A heat exchanger at maximum flow rate can transfer all available energy from your
heat source to pool water. With a higher flow rate, the time taken to turn the pool water will be reduced
and even a small increase in the temperature of the pool water through the heat exchanger will have a
greater impact on the heating efficiency of the pool.
