PRESCRIPTOR
Develops a critical reflective approach to Maori health research practice, including a range of
critical, indigenous and kaupapa Maori research methodologies. Understands the role of Maori
leadership structures in communities, and their role and the role of whanau, hapu, iwi and Maori
communities in research. Develops an understanding of the relationship between research, policy
and practice development.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Critically analyse critical, indigenous and kaupapa Māori research methodologies and
approaches for research with Māori
2. Critique the role and use of research and knowledge translation in advancing whānau and
Māori community development.
3. Apply key principles to Māori or indigenous research endeavours
4. Design and develop a research proposal for research with Māori
5. Present work at the appropriate academic standard
