To whom it may concern,

I would like to apply for a teaching position in an elementary school during the winter of
2023. I am looking to teach in a classroom with first to fourth graders. I am interested in
math but I am willing to work with any subject area. While at Alma College, I am working
towards a major in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics. To do this I have
had multiple placements at elementary schools in Gratiot County.

My philosophy on teaching is that a classroom should be a safe and caring environment

for students to learn, grow, and explore in. I will use strategies to ensure our classroom
community will flourish such as morning meetings, positive vs. negative discipline, and
problem-solving skills. While doing placements, I have taught a social studies lesson
focusing on longitude and latitude, as well as a science experiment about speed and
motion. While doing student teaching, I have taught math and language arts units.

In addition to my education coursework, I have increased my understanding of

children’s needs by spending time observing at a Montessori School in Davison,
Michigan. As a teacher you need to challenge your students to do their best, but also
openly believe that they can complete what you are asking of them.

My resume is attached, as well as details of my coursework. I would be happy to meet

with principals and classroom teachers as needed in preparation for my teaching term. I
look forward to teaching because I believe in continuous education. My teaching term
will provide opportunities for development and growth as well as offer support as I
further develop my beliefs and style regarding teaching.
