The document summarizes an enzyme activity lab that studies the effect of the enzyme lactase on milk. It defines what enzymes are and their role in biological processes. The lab uses lactase enzyme solution, skimmed milk, and a sucrose solution. It tests the enzyme solution, a denatured enzyme solution, and a glucose detection strip to see if lactase breaks down lactose in milk into glucose.

Objective: To study the effect of the enzyme lactase on milk
• An enzyme is a substance that acts as a catalyst
in living organisms, regulating the rate at which chemical reactions proceed without itself being altered in the process. • The biological processes that occur within all living organisms are chemical reactions, and most are regulated by enzymes. Carbohydrates Specificity Lactose Intolerance Glucose Detection Strip Principle of Glucose detection strip Also called as GOD POD method (Glucose Oxidase – Peroxidase method) Material & Methods 1. Enzyme solution – Add and dissolve the lactase tablet to 200ml distilled water. 2. Skimmed milk – Milk from which cream has been removed. 3. Sucrose solution – Add 5 gram of table sugar to 100 ml of distilled water. Stir to dissolve the sugar. 4. Denatured Enzyme Solution – i. Place 20ml of enzyme solution into a test tube. ii. Add 200 ml of water to a 500 ml beaker. iii. Place the test - tube in the beaker. iv. Place the beaker along with test-tube on a hot-plate or burner. v. Boil the water in the beaker for 30 min. Cool it down to room temperature Experimental Plan & Result
