Summary
I first came to Alaska more than a quarter-century ago as a commercial fisherman in the Upper
Cook Inlet. I worked aboard a 38-foot drift boat based out of the old Wards Cove Packing
Company on the Kenai River. It was the perfect introduction to Alaska. The year was a bust. I
spent more money to get there than I made fishing. I may have lost money that season. But I
found home.
Over the past 20 years, I have pursued my passion of serving Alaska by working to address
community challenges big and small. I have served on the Fairview Community Council
(including two terms as president), founded the Fairview Business Association, and have
worked with the Anchorage Community Development Authority, the Anchorage Chamber of
Commerce, and the National League of Cities.
In 2017, I was elected to represent the Downtown District of the Municipality of Anchorage.
And on February 17, 2022, I announced my candidacy to become Alaska's next representative
in Congress. While I wasn't successful in my race, I yielded to Mary Peltola, Alaska's newest
member of Congress. And now I am standing for re-election to the Anchorage Assembly for
my third and final term.
It’s hard to believe I’ve spent half my life in this beautiful, majestic state, surrounded by “can
do” friends, neighbors, and fellow Alaskans who look out for one another and forge ahead
despite unprecedented challenges. The Alaska spirit is self-reliance, we take care of each
other.
After living through the darkness of the pandemic and years of political extremism that have
threatened the very foundation of our democracy – it is time to once again believe in a better
and brighter tomorrow. And to build it.
It is time to leave behind the chaos, and come together as Alaskans to achieve our full
potential as a state and as a nation.
It is time to reject political pessimism and instead it’s time to lead with courage, optimism, and
hope. That is why I am committed to public service to my fellow Alaskans. That is why I am
excited about Alaska's future.
