SELF –LEARNING HOME TASK (SLHT)

Subject: SCIENCE Grade: 6 Level: Elementary Quarter: 3 Week: 1

MELC : Infer how friction and gravity affect movements of different objects
Competency Code S6FE-IIIa-c-1

Objectives:
K.- Describe friction, force and gravity and how they affect on the
movements of objects
S- Demonstrate the uses of friction in our daily activities
A- Practice carefulness in doing ones activity

Name _________________________ Section _______ Date__________

School_________________________ District_____________________________

A.Readings/Discussions

Look at the illustrations above? What can you say about them? On the first illustration
using Venn Diagram between gravity and friction .They both change the motion or movement
of objects with application of force on objects.

Force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the object's interaction with another
object, whenever there is an interaction between two objects, there is a force upon each of
the objects. Force cannot be seen but can be felt and observed because of their effects. .
Force is measured in the unit called Newtons   – named after the first scientist to quantify
forces, Sir Isaac Newton.
Friction is a force that opposes motion, or makes it difficult for an object to move across a
surface. Friction is a form of contact force. The second illustration above clearly shows that
friction opposes motion and the force applied.
Examples of friction

- Rubbing both hands together to create heat.

- A sled sliding across snow or ice.
- A washing machine pushed along a floor.

Gravity  is a force of attraction that pulls together all matter .Like the apple it falls because of
gravity. The more weight a thing has, the greater the force of its gravity.

A. B. .Exercises

Exercise 1
Directions: Read & identify whether it is friction, force or gravity. Write your
answers in your notebook:

_________________1. bouncing ball

_________________2. rolling ball
_________________3. pushing the cart
_________________4. man standing
_________________5. flying kite
_________________6. pulling the box
_________________7. scrubbing the floor
_________________8. falling coconut
_________________9. moving car towards the cliff
_________________10. rubbing two sticks together
.

Exercise 2
A. Directions: Name four uses of friction in your daily activities .

1.________________________________

2._________________________________

3._________________________________

4.__________________________________

GUIDE

For the Teacher

Advise the students to read the Reading and Discussion portion before they
attempt to answer the practice exercises. Let the learners go through the parts
sequentially to help them understand the topic easily. The Key Answers are for
you to refer during the checking. Don’t include it in the printing.

For the Learner:

Read thoroughly and understand the Self-Learning Home Task from the first
part to the last part. By doing so, will help you understand better the topic. If
you still have enough time, do it twice for more understanding. You can use a
dictionary if you find it hard to comprehend the science terms. Use a separate
sheet for your answers.

For the Parent/Home Tutor:

Assist your child and make sure that he/she reads the Self-Learning Home
Task from the beginning up to end, to ensure proper understanding of the
concepts. Don’t feed the answer to your child. Let her/him do it of his own.
