Generating Contour from Raster in QGIS

Requisites:

1. Raster File in DEM or DTM format

QGIS steps

Step 1: Load the raster data

Step 2: Click Menu Bar>Raster>Extraction>Contour

Step 3: Input the ff. parameters in the Contour dialogue window (refer to the image below)

a. Input layer – the raster layer i.e. DEM or DTM


b. Band number – leave it as is
c. Interval between contour lines – here you select what is your desired interval
between contour e.g. 1 meter, 2, 3, etc.
d. Attribute information ‘ELEV.’ – leave it as is
e. Offset from zero… - leave it as is
f. Contours – click the ellipse i.e. three dots … and save the generated contour lines in
your directory
g. Run – click to process the parameters

Note: your generated contour file will be saved in your specified directory. Load it in QGIS and check the
result. Also, it may take some time to process the data especially if it’s a large area or your computer has
lower computing power.
