Despite the political season being over, there is still a surge of political activities in the country.

Most
politicians including the top government officials are still actively engaging in politics. Elections were
conducted six months ago and it is expected that politicians should be now focusing on delivering on the
promises they made to the local wananchi. The politicians are ironically still running politics thus
increasing the political tension in the country. A day won’t pass without a political bigwig making
headlines with political matters. Recently the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua was on the spotlight
after he made some comments concerning the government. Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony in
Kericho County, the deputy president said “The government is like a company guaranteed by shares.
Those who voted in favor of the government have many shares and must enjoy the benefits first while
those who did not vote for the government will benefit but they must wait. “The comments elicited a lot
of reactions from Kenyans with some claiming that those who didn’t vote for the government should be
exempted from tax because why fund a government that will not benefit them. The deputy president’s
remarks seemed to be advocating for a divided Kenya when he should be on the forefront in trying to
unite Kenyans. There has also been an exchange of words between Azimio and UDA MP’s. A day won’t
go by without a trending twitter topic because of an exchange between the MP’s. Such political stunts
have resulted to challenges in the economy such as the recent closure of China Square which was mainly
motivated by the Trade CS Moses Kuria. The opposition leader Raila Odinga has also been on the
spotlight after organizing different rallies campaigning against the government not delivering on its
promises with the most recent of his rallies being at the Jacaranda Gardens. The rallies attracted large
crowds and was graced by several opposition leaders such as Babu Owino making it seem like a political
gathering. This is coming up at a time is struggling economically amidst issues such as drought and the
high cost of living that continues to rise day in day out. The government should thus focus on reviving
the economy that is already crumbling on its knees. Several citizens are struggling to make ends meet as
prices of basic commodities such as Unga seem to be soaring up day and night. And with a government
that is already facing a lot of critics from the citizens, the president and the deputy president should be
working on things that would help regain the citizens confidence in their government. The president
should thus talk to the elected Members of parliament and all elected leaders and warn them against
participating in politics. The opposition party leader Raila Odinga should also work on a way that they as
an opposition can criticize the government without pulling off political stunts. Politics should be the least
of our concern as a country and our leaders should focus on the development issues ahead of them.
