RESEARCH PAPER ABSTRACT

By

SHEILA MAE PADILLA

The Problem

This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness present

educational game at Alitagtag Senior High School and to propose an

educational game for this office for the School Year 2019-2020

Specifically, the study sought the answers to be following questions.

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of competence in

utilizing a computer?

2. What is the perceptions of the respondent to current instructional

materials used in grade 12 physical science?

3. What are the challenges encountered by the respondents in present

instructional materials used in grade 12 physical science?

4. How do the respondents agree on the benefits to be derived from the

computerized educational game for grade 12 physical science?

Alitagtag Senior High School x

5. To what extent do the respondents recommended the proposed system

for improving the present instructional materials used in grade 12

physical science?

6. How do the respondents agree on the benefits to be derived from the

computerized educational game for grade 12 physical science after

xiii
presenting it to them?

1. After the presentation, all respondents perceived that there were several

benefits that will be derived from the computerized educational game

for the respondents.

Recommendations

Based from the conclusions drawn, the researcher offers the following

recommendations:

1. The Junior High School students could be Involved in the same kind of

the study about the Science.

2. The present instructional materials in Physical Science must be

improved so that it will be more effective.

3. The recommended proposed program that was developed by the

researcher should be prepared and utilized.

4. The benefits to be derived from the computer educational game should

be studied and analyzed carefully.

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter presents the analysis and interpretation of data gathered

from the respondents through the questionnaire.

1. Profile of the Respondents

1.1. Distribution of Respondents by Competence in Utilizing a Computer.

Table 1 shows the distribution of respondents in utilizing a computer.

It can be noted in the table that the level of competence of the

respondents in utilizing a computer was outstanding in general. The table

shows that there were 27 or 90 percent respondents whose level of competence

is outstanding. Two or seven percent very outstanding and one or three percent

satisfactory. This clearly implies that the respondents are fully capable of

instructing and guiding the students in using modernized technology.

2. Perceptions of Present Perceptions of the Respondents to Current

Instructional Materials Used in Grade 12 Physical Science. Table 2 shows

Perceptions of the Respondents to Current Instructional Materials Used in

Grade 12 Physical Science.

As shown from the data in the table, respondents disagreed on the

positive perceptions on the present instructional materials in studying Physical

Science. This was revealed by the obtained average weighted mean of 3.24 by

the respondents. They all agreed that the students focus on the presentation and

get less distracted. This item was first in rank and got the highest average

weighted mean of 3.76. On the other hand, the respondents disagreed on that

the present instruction materials didn’t make the lesson interesting and

enjoyable which got the lowest average mean of 2.26, thus, got the lowest rank.

This strongly indicates that the present instructional materials used has obvious

negative effects as perceived by the respondents. Therefore, a new and

improved system will be a great help.

As noted from the data in the table, respondents strongly agreed on the

challenges encountered in the present instructional materials used in Physical

Science. This was revealed by the obtained average weighted mean of 4.45 by

the respondents. They all agreed that were distracted or not focus in class

different, the last item on the table which tells they were not interested and not

motivated to learn which got the lowest average weighted mean of 4.2, thus,

got the lowest rank. This strongly indicates that the present instructional

materials should be improved and provide variety of materials that will get the

interest of the learner.

As indicated from the data in the table, respondents strongly agreed to

the benefits to be derived from the computerized educational game. This was

revealed by the average weighted mean of 4.91 by the respondents. They all

agreed that the proposed educational game will make the lesson interesting and

enjoyable. This item was first rank and got the highest average weighted mean

of 5.00. However, they agreed that it will enhance the level of understanding of

the students which got the lowest average weighted mean of 4.56, thus, got the

lowest rank.

According to Jancheski(2017), the use of computer games in educational

contexts encourages active, critical, autonomous and participated learning

processes, engaging students in active forms of acquiring knowledge and skills.

The main purpose of computer games in not only entertainment; they can

combine the playful factor with pedagogical advantages, promoting changes in

terms of cognitive, behavioral and psychomotor skills in its users.

which was to be made and to be implemented contributing to the improvement

of the respondents recommended the proposed computerized educational game

to be agreed. This was supported by the average weighted mean of 5.00 which

is first to rank.

This could be due to the fact all of them recognize the importance of

computerized educational game in motivating and encouraging students to

study Physical Science. It is clearly reflected in this finding that through the

computerized educational game for improving the skills knowledge of students

will have a more developed and innovative system.

6. Perceived Benefits to be Derived from the Proposed System After

Presenting it to the Respondents. Table 6 displays the benefits to be derived

from the computerized educational game for grade 12 Physical Science

after presenting it to them.

The researcher presented the proposed computerized educational game for

grade 12 Physical Science to the respondents. After presentation, the last

problem was answered. The table shows how the respondents strongly agreed

to the benefits that will be derived if a computerized educational game for

grade 12 Physical Science will be used as an instructional material. This was

revealed by the average weighted mean of 4.79. According to the respondents,

they will be more engaged and motivated in studying Physical Science.
