Unit Title: Human Growth & Development Integrated Skills – Grade 5

Targeted State Standards: Standards 1-7

Unit Objectives/Enduring Understandings: Students will be able to identify the changes that occur during puberty; Understand how their own sexuality is
impacted by the world around them; How they can make their wishes known using appropriate communication skills.

Essential Questions: Why is it important to understand human development?


How do I care for my reproductive system?
What is a relationship? How does one develop a relationship?
How do social and cultural environments shape how I learn about and express my sexuality?
How can I avoid unwanted consequences of sexual behavior?
What are STI’s/STD’s? How are they prevented, treated, and cured?

Unit Assessment: Teacher-developed assessment that will demonstrate student understanding of the unit objectives and essential questions as they
relate to this unit.
