Design Models

The essay Design Model helps understand the projects, practices, and methods of the architecture
firm - UN Studio. It emphasizes on their realization that the practice of designing projects should be
eliminated from architecture, and defines the design model as a well-defined, systematic approach
to design that is durable and transferable. Instead, the architect should create a "design model" that
will serve as the foundation for all future projects. These design models are durable and applicable
to all projects.

Architecture has evolved significantly over the last few decades. With the advent of the digital age,
the use of computers has greatly impacted the design process and the execution of those designs.
These methods of computer-aided design have little to do with the complex limits of life, but most of
their results are based on unfeasible theories. However, efficient use of these technologies in design
models can provide a broader view of the design. This is because it is based solely on parametric
design, which is a more systematic and structured approach to design. With the changing times, the
idea of practicing architecture has become monotonous. For architects, risk-taking and
experimentation have become less important. Practicing safe architecture has the advantage of
providing economic viability, but the security factor does not make the architecture innovative and
unique. But on the other hand, few practitioners take risks and realize that this process is not a
linear, one-time process. Architects should be willing to experiment and not be afraid to take risks.
Safe architecture, while commercially viable and critically acclaimed, is not revolutionary. And
architects who dare to be different can be called idealists of the world. Treats architecture as an art
with a focus on long-term vision. This long-term vision also addresses material practices and global
issues related to architecture.

Design models such as those proposed by UN Studio are better developed by hands-on architects
than those who teach theory. This is mainly due to the fact that the design model deals with real
requirements, questions and issues. In later years, however, the study of architecture has become
much more important, largely because it has become structured and digitized. Additionally,
architects are now placing more emphasis on the socio-economic impact of design, incorporating
economic principles into the process. In recent years, computational design has received more
attention than traditional forms of architecture.

The use of parametric design becomes more carefree and the word itself sounds hollow. A pre-
structured set of information is required to perform parametric design. Site conditions and
parameters are typically not taken into account in this process, and the design is almost entirely
done in isolation. This is still a theoretical approach and does not capture all possible complex
parameters from real life on screen. For this reason, the technique stagnates, and similar results are
repeated regardless of the building's purpose or location. This ultimately leads to a more imaginative
approach that usually lacks the real aspects of real life.
Traditionally, diagrams play a major role in architecture. The organizational diagrams precede the
analysis of all sites, etc. It was a highly process driven method. Diagrams, used to condense and
unclutter information, were seen as the catalyst for idea generation, representing a raw, yet strong
potential. Architects continued to develop diagrams that strengthened the effect of the symbiotic
relationship between the various elements and developed diagrams that better represented them
and developed ideas. UN Studio repeats the diagram, and repetition means standardization.
Applying the same design model to different projects yielded different results.

Design models are used in engineering as well as architecture. These models are structured
collections that act as checklists for efficient processes. The design process is a loop. When you're
working without a design model, you don't have a path to guide you as to what steps to take when
you get stuck. The design model provides a loop that encourages taking risks because there is always
a way out if things go wrong. These models are highly adaptable and can be modified as needed.

Design models are especially useful for creatively adapting and advancing design techniques. The
subject itself is not as open-ended as design, so students probably don't want to work on it.
However, the idea of architecture advocated by UN Studio is not to separate design and
construction, but to integrate them. They also want to isolate the constructive and play with it, like
an artist plays with his colours.

The essay concludes with 10 points that summarize the process and characteristics of design models.
The motivation for reading comprehension is to help architects understand that creating systems
that increase efficiency and precision is more important than designing buildings individually. There
is less room for error and you can focus on the architectural fundamentals of any project. It is helpful
to establish a specific process to use during design so that guidance is readily available if confusion
arises. It was a completely new concept that I had never heard before. Once applied, I think it
accentuates and enhances the architect's design process.
