“THE PROGRESS THROUGH EDUCATION”

By Carlos “Botong” Francisco

I. Describe what you see:

The colors of the artwork were dark nor nude colors. I see different people doing
different things in one frame. On the lower left, there are Malay people. On the upper left, the
Christian Missionaries. The center was Christ, beside Christ is a mother and a child, on the lower
right are a couple and the edges are the spirits of the dead.
II. Analyze the artwork:
The artwork used different kinds of shapes, lines, but they do not show 100% contrast
unto each other. I can see that everything even the little part of the artwork is balanced and
proportional. The artwork maximized the blank spaces.
III. Interpret the artwork:
I can conclude that the artwork tells us the importance of education. On the other hand,
education has its own progress. And it is also the reason behind our own progress as a human
being. Through education, we learn skills in every aspect of our lives; critical thinking skills,
communication skills and many more. Indeed, education helps us maximize our potential.
IV. Evaluate/Judging the artwork:
I assure that Carlos V. Francisco really delivered the message that he wants us (people) to
appreciate, know, understand, consider, and remember about education. He is indeed an
effective artist.

“ANG MAGPUPUKOT”
By Carlos “Botong” Francisco

I. Describe what you see:

I see many fishermen in the sea who’s pulling their net together while they are on their
own boat. They do not wear top clothes while they are catching something in the sea. The
scene shows that they pull hard to catch.
II. Analyze the artwork:
The color of the people is brown or defined as “kayumanggi” in Filipino. Every color in
the artwork was equally mixed and they have combinations. The lines used for shadows
provided good highlights. The subject of the artwork is balanced (front and behind).
III. Interpret the artwork:
I have learned that the artwork shows the perseverance of the people who long to catch
something they can sell or eat for the day. No matter how difficult it is for them, they still
continue to do what they have to do as a team. Being a fisherman is not easy, everyone
can sacrifice their life surrounded by the sea.
IV. Evaluate/Judging the artwork:
I commend Carlos V. Francisco because he really delivered the message that he wants us
(people) to appreciate, know, understand, consider and remember about fishing. I am
proud to say that the artist of the artwork “Ang Magpupukot” is a Filipino.
