Lesson Components:

Day 1

Phase 1: PowerPoint instruction

The teacher will show a PowerPoint explaining what Synectic is and the

instruction that the students will be doing. The PowerPoint will have different types

of models about how to learn Synectic and what to look for in each one. Over the

course of the two days.

Phase 2: Activity with class

The teacher will work with the students to go over the first assignment

together. The teacher will show them some pictures and they will look at them to

see what is going on in each one of them. She will then explain that they will have

one day to go through the picture and point out the things that they see.

Day 2

Phase 3: Finishing up

The teacher will ask the students questions about the picture they chose and

the things they saw. To see what each student came up with and see if they have

used both sides of their brains. The teacher also gave a direct analogies question,

“How is the teacher like a computer? How is a traffic light like an alarm clock?”

Questions like that would get the students to really think about what each has in

common and how they may go together. People would not just put these things

together, but when they sit back and think more about it, they can come up with

how they match.

Phase 4: What was learned

The teacher will have taught the students to think in analogies. They will not

just think about what is in the picture, but what things are in common with things

that others may not think are. The words that each student would be able to

analogies and understand them. The student would play a game to get ready for

the test that they will have.

Evaluation:

The students would now take a test with analogies and other Synectic to see if they

understood what the lesson was about. With this, the teacher would know what is

needed to reteach and know what the students have learned from the lesson.
