It is generally believed that students at university or college should take part-time jobs either for
economic benefits or practical work experience.In my opinion, this has both merits and demerits.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why some lay an emphasis on the fact that working as
part- time students provides them with money and work experience. First and foremost, it is
undeniable that work can bring in money. From the economic perspective, working makes it
easier than ever for some who cannot afford their education to pursue their academic study. A
good example of this is that a great number of Vietnamese students take part-time jobs such as
barista or teachers as a way to earn more money for tuition fees and other bare essentials.
Another point worth noting is that working prepare for a real world of work. With the practical
working environment, part-time jobs work as a step out of ivory tower, which faciliates students
applying their theoretical study to practice. Resultantly, students can adjust to their full-time
work responsibilities after graduation..
On the other hand, it should be borne in mind that the primary purpose of university study is to
concentrate on and analyze academic work. As a result, some who work outside their studies on
a regular basis are unable to devote themselves sufficiently to their studies, which leads to their
difficulty in passing their courses and terrible consequences for their future. Moreover, students
taking some part-time jobs that are irrelevant to their main major cannot specialze in their
professionalization.Consequently, they can stand a high chance of unemployment in their career.
By way of conclusion, it seems sensible for students to take part-time jobs for improving hands-
on experience and making money for their school life as it depends on every students’ particular
circumstances. Students should take part-time jobs into account to make a best decision for their
studies and career in the distant future.
