CONTRIBUTION

OF WORKER IN
BANGLADESH
ECONOMY

READYMADE GARMENT (RMG) INDUSTRY
▪ RMG industry is now and industry of US$ 31 billion
(2020–2021) that accounts for 81.16 per cent of the
country’s total export revenue

▪ Around 4.4 million worker have been employed in this


industry
READYMADE GARMENT (RMG) INDUSTRY
▪ On covid-19 lockdown which was commenced on July
2020, the garments however was decided to be kept
open

▪ Garments worker had to join work by foot because public


transports had been shut off

▪ That helped to fulfill the gap which was around 7 billion


dollars in (2019-2020) from the previous fiscal year (2018-
2019).

REMITTANCE – BANGLADESHI WORKERS ON ABROAD
▪ As of October 2021, the money sent home by
Bangladeshis working abroad amounted to $1.65 billion

▪ Several researches shows that there is an interconnected


relation between economic development and remittance

▪ Maximum remittance come from KSA, UAE, Qatar, Oman,


Bahrain, Kuwait etc.
AGRO EXPORT FROM BANGLADESH
▪ Bangladesh’s agro-products emerged as the second-
biggest export earner after apparel industry

▪ Agricultural product segments include tea, fresh produce,


tobacco, processed, spices and dry food.

▪ More than 60 companies are exporting foodstuffs like


biscuits, confectionaries, beverages and dry items like
puffed rice and chanachur to different South Asian,
Middle-Eastern, African, American and European regions
▪ In this way, farmworkers are contributing in Bangladesh
economy
WORKERS ISSUE

➢ However workers safety measures had been questioned by


different entities many times

➢ On July 9, 2021, at least 52 workers died due to a massive


fire broke out in a juice factory.

➢ Since 2005, Bangladesh has seen at least nine major


industrial fires, including the one at June 9, 2021. Of these
fires, at least four involved the improper storage of
flammable chemicals.
